Default Lexus has a schizophrenic image

In America , Lexus cars are associated with rich, conservative, "golf playing as hobby" elderly folk.

In Japan, the larger RWD toyotas eg. Celsiors(LS430) and Aristos(gs300/gs430) - -especially when modified to VIP car standards -- are apparently favored by the Yakuza. A local car mag in my country described it this way : When the Yakuza arrive for face to face meetings with rival gangs, the boss will arrive in a Celsior(LS430), his right hand man in a Toyota Crown and his prodigal step-son in a twin turbo Aristo(gs300).

Disclaimer : I live in neither the USA or Japan. The above observations are gleaned from a third party's interest and research in both American and Japanese car culture.

I am a very big Jeremy fan. Almost huge. But sadly, his typed words don't do him any justice at all. You have to HEAR Jeremy talk about a car...you have to SEE him drive the car. He has been doing the BEST car TV show I've ever watched, called Top Gear for many years. It has no peer in American television. Please go here to see some of them:

The Koenigsegg is also my favorite......

Of American journalists, the best "old" one is Peter Egan from Road and Track.
The best "new" one (and he's in his 20's!!) is Ezra Dyer. He's very, very good. Here..have a quick read of him taking the 604HP AMG SL65 to Friday Nite dragracing...

Thumbs down The guy is a Jerk

Jeremy spends to much time with adjectives and not enough time driving. Does he really need to spend one whole page reviewing how he visited Japan and the little girl from Japan. I think he sucks at car reviews. Lexus does need to step up and make a AMG/M version of the GS430 to get some respect that it is not just all luxury.

Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy's irreverent style turned the motoring industry on its head when he first appeared on Top Gear and now he's set to do it all over again with this series.

A few things have changed over the years. The hair's a bit thinner, the cowboy boots have gone and the Ferrari has been replaced by a Mercedes. Thankfully, though, JC is still more than capable of reducing car manufacturers to floods of tears with nothing more than a long pause and a few well considered words.

Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson first presented BBC’s Top Gear in 1989, and after a break of almost four years is back on the programme this year with his well known, forthright opinions.

Jeremy trained as a journalist on the Rotherham Advertiser. He developed a liking for cars in 1977 when he passed his driving test at the wheel of his grandfather’s ‘R’ Type Bentley. After his reporter training, Jeremy decided to combine his writing skills with his interest in cars and formed the Motoring Press Agency in 1984.

As well as contributing to most specialist car magazines over the years - he was columnist for Performance Car from 1986 to 1993 - Jeremy has written for Esquire and currently has a weekly column in the UK daily, The Sun, and two columns a week in the Sunday Times newspapers, as well as contributing to BBC Top Gear Magazine.

In 1993, Jeremy presented Clarkson’s Star Cars and in 1995 and 1996 he fronted two six-part series of Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld. In January 1998 he presented Jeremy Clarkson’s Extreme Machines and in 2000, Clarkson’s Car Years.

As well as his motoring programmes Jeremy has presented a wide variety of programming. In 2001 he wrote and presented Speed, he also had his own chatshow, Clarkson, and most recently he presented Meet The Neighbours. In Great Britons this October, Jeremy makes the case as to why he believes Isambard Kingdom Brunel is the Greatest Briton of all time. Arguing that he is the greatest because he 'built the world we live in' he hopes to convince viewers to vote for him against stiff competition from the other Britons shortlisted in the top ten.

He is author of four books - Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld, Clarkson on Cars, Jeremy Clarkson’s Hot 100 and Born To be Riled, a collection of his Top Gear magazine and Sunday Times columns - as well as the video series Best of Motorworld. Other video titles include Jeremy Clarkson Unleashed, Motorsport Mayhem, Apocalypse Clarkson and Extreme Machine, and he has another video out in the autumn No Limits.

Jeremy lives in the Cotswolds with his wife Francie, and their three children Emily, Finlo and Katya.

He is certainly entitled to his opinion... as are the rest of us. He is quite a character, and while we disagree on this review, I will still enjoy watching his reviews. He can drive a loaner car while his beloved Mercedes are in the shop- I will be DRIVING and enjoying my Lexus!

I saw THREE new GSs on the way home from work last night- about a four mile drive.
People are, in fact, buying them... the public has spoken!

Thank you, that was hilarious.

"...The SL65's rear tires aren't just bringing a knife to a gun fight, they're bringing a pair of left-handed safety scissors to a nuclear war."

"...I am quickly made to understand that if I can run in the 11s with full air pressure in the tires, the air-conditioning on, and the suspension set on firm (not ideal for load transfer to the drive wheels), then basically Cuddles the Miniature Seeing-Eye Pony could also snap off consistent sub-twelve-second runs."

LMAO

If you read British and Euro car magazines like Top Gear, Evo, CAR, and Max Power you will see all kinds of bashing of cars from Japan and especially America. I do like these magazines because they are larger, more in depth, feature rare cars, and have nicer pictures but many writers take alot of cheap shots at American cars and Americans. They generally write off Americans as fat, violent, stupid rednecks who love fast food and floaty cars or huge pickups. Sometimes it is funny and you get the feeling they are just joking but other times they are just being smug elitist Euro snobs. They generally love Jaguars as well as BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Audi, Mercedees, Skoda, TVR, and Fords only sold overseas like the Puma and do not seem to care all that much about reliability. The magazines are expensive running 7.50-10.00 but they are nice.

As for Japanese cars British and Euro car mags are not as brutal as they are of American cars and seem only impressed by the reliability of Japanese luxury cars like Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura but say they would take the driving experience of European brands over trouble free Japanese brands. They seem to like Integra Type R's, Accord Type R's, NSX, S2000, IS200, RX-8, last RX-7, Prelude, 350Z, Skylines,Evo's, Impreza's and a few other small Japanese cars but that is about it. That article went over the top with critisizing different cultures and the GS. I agree if you want a thrilling sporty ride then the new GS is probrably not for you but there is no way it is as bad as he reviewed it. Even people on Freshalloy thought the article was over the top and too unfair to the GS and they are usaully not too fond of Lexus. The only good that can come out of the article is Lexus may try to make more of its offerings sportier and more exciting in the future if enough people complain.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like it at all, partly because it’s about as attractive as a sponsored town centre roundabout and partly because Lexuses these days are driven by people who play golf, or people who like to slap their hos and drive around at night shooting at business rivals with submachineguns. Gangstas? Golfers? I don’t want to look like either.
lol, OUCH! Sorry guys, I thought that was funny...

The 3GS is a nice car but some of you may know I'm not a big fan of it.....I'm still trying but it's not getting any better. Just yesterday I stared at the headlights again and just don't like the way they sit on the side of the car. Anyway, I'm not here to give my review. Even I am disappointed with Clarkson's review. It contains little objectivity. He says it's a nice car because he's forced to. He clearly is biased. That's not what I read auto journals for. The biggest danger is some other young impressionable journalist will read this and thinks it's okay to be this way. The second biggest problem is some impressionable car shopper may read it and not buy the car because of this biased opinion. Everyone has the right to their opinion but where does it become improper? It becomes improper when you've been given the responsibility of sharing views in a public forum....in a publication where most see it as factual. SHame on Clarkson.

I see you guys was not the only ones offended by this writers comment. I was cruising the other site forum and they really stuck up for us Lexus guys. Majority of them felt the same as all of you about his writing style and comments. ^5 to FA (Class Act Guys).

More GS bashing...
