Transmission
I love this transmission in Sport Mode. It drives nice and hard when in this mode. When decelerate, shifting down for me exactly how I would with a manual. Also, it does a really cool thing when you hit it really hard and wind the engine out, if you let go of the gas (car in front of you, etc) the tranny holds the same gear nicely so you might hold 2nd @ 50 mph and run at around 3000 rpm as long as you keep your foot off the peddle. Very nice!
I encourage any 430 (maybe 300 as well) owners to try these things and comment.

If I had one I would .
But waiting for 300 HP I think is worth it!
Sounds pretty cool though . I think the manumatic mode would be neat too for my son(/wife) to practice on for when he drives the Corvette (6-speed manual). Ths GS is such a great car. I just hope I don't get pulled into the IS' beautiful lines and specs. Either way, its a Lexus!

But is your transmission "jumpy" in traffic?
I posted this previously, and perhaps I'm the only one experiencing this problem with a GS300:
anybody else notice roughness/jumpiness in the transmission when slowing to a stop, or crawling along (like in a shopping center)? it's quite evident on my car, and perhaps i just have a problem that nobody else feels.
it's as if the tranny is downshifting when slowing to a stop, and i can really feel it...makes it difficult to come to a smooth stop. and then if i'm moving very very slowly in heavy traffic, it seems to be "wandering" between 1st & 2nd...something like that...and it's very jumpy. not smooth at all.
i realize that Lexus may come up with some reprogramming for trannies (that happened on my '01 GS, and it made a big difference). in the meantime, it's really prominent in my car...

the jumpiness is common to the V6 models. i had it in my RX for quite some time, and then finally fixed in recent months. the GS4 does not display this kind of jerkiness at any speed.

reset ECU, replace transmission cooler lines. the 2nd one did the trick once and for all, took them 1 1/2 yrs to figure that out, but now it's perfect (with the exception of not having enough power! )

There was another thread here somewhere talking about this issue if I recall.. The jerkiness comes from the fact (if I recall) that the transmission does indeed downshift as you come to a stop.. Some reasoning for this is IF you have to tromp on the pedal, the transmission knows exactly what gear to be in instead of hunting around like some other cars out there.
Part of the issue also comes from the fact that the transmission has some fuzzy logic stuff that learns how you drive and learns to shift accordingly. I gather you can reset the "logic" to get back to factory settings, but not sure how..
