I was putting the plates on my 06 430 and noticed that there is no face plate support on the back plate. That means the plate is right on the paint. Has anyone asked their Lexus dealer for a back support plate? I don't like the idea of taking the plate off a year from now and have it all scratched or water getting in there. Any ideas?

I didn't have time to have service put them on so I took them home. I bought a black frame with a sealed plactic cover for the plate so it does get all full of bugs. I reversed the plastic dealer insert that was on the frame before I got the plates so it would protect the paint from the frame.

i have a thick piece of cardboard that came with the Lexus 3-d logo frame that i use to keep a tight fit. i think parts of the metal still touch though, but it is snug and doesn't rattle or anything when i close the trunk. i don't notice any scratches, but then again i only take the plate off once a year to replace the registration sticker.
the other thing you could try is to get those little clear rubber bumpers they sell for hanging picture frames and put them behind the corners to keep it slightly off the paint...

Stick one half of a small piece of velcro to the lower back side of the license plate where it'll touch the paint. Stick the other half of the velcro to the paint. No scratches or rattles when you attach the plate and the velcro grabs. You can use heat to unglue the velcro from the paint when it's time to sell the car. Good luck.
