Here comes the IS350 - pressure on GS430?
The pressure will be on Lexus to upgrade the GS430 and even the GS300 rather quickly, now that the IS350 is on the horizon with 300+hp.
AutoWeek just featured it on this week's magazine.

People are going to buy the GS430 for it's size and power, not really for a performance machine. Plus, the GS430 has almost 50 lb-ft of torque on the IS (i believe the IS has some 277ish?), and torque > HP in these kinds of cars.

Unless the GS has a lot of body overhang, or has some misplaced axles, I don't see it being possible, as the new IS is supposedly 3/4 the size of the GS.

Platform does not mean the exact same, there are tooling differences. And there is ANOTHER Lexus executive who stated the IS is its own platform. So I am not sure who to believe yet.

The original IS was a derivative of the then GS, with most of the suspension parts being almost the same. They were at least related in that way.
The current GS is slightly different than the 98-05, with most of the new suspension bits being up front, the rear is pretty similar to the previous.
What they most likely meant was the parts are similar to the current new GS in the same way the previous IS was related to the GS.
I took a peek under a new IS that was parked the other day, looked pretty much like the new GS from the quick peek under there. They still have them fully disguised around here even though the car has been announced and debuted already, I guess they still don't want to affect sales of the current car at least as far as the general non-car-enthusiast public goes. Crazy though I see these test cars almost every day for the past couple months!!! They also have a new fully disguised Scion xA putting around with them.
