BTW, how do you guys get under the car? I'll assume you using a jack of some sort.

(Not the trunk jack) Where is a good hard point to use a floor jack? Maybe you could post another picture of the floor jack in place for us inexperienced new owners. Thanks again.
I personally use ramps I bought at Kragen or equivalent and just drive the car up on the ramps.. Initially I looked for good jack points, but using the ramps is just easier and less prone to cause any side effects or screw ups unless you drive off the end of the ramps (done that once with my wifes Odyssey minivan -- I don't suggest it!)

Exclamation oil change cartridge plus o-ring

I don't think I can fit my floor jack that far under the frame...may need to get a lower profile floor jack just for this purpose. Thanks for the reply.

BTW I was able to find an oil filter cartridge kit, p/n A6002-180824, including the large O-ring, for $8.87 !!

I know for a fact that my floor jack isn't nearly low enough to get under the GS300.. I've already tried and didn't get past the front end.. I should probably look into one of those low profile models made from aircraft grade aluminum (like this one) -- sometimes those come in handy for some tasks -- specifically removing tires at least.

BTW -- where did you get the filter kit?

Wink GS Filter Kit

addict- I ordered the kit from alldiscountautoparts.com and if you order six kits you get free shipping (orders over $50). Since the local Lexus dealer would get about $600 for the next six oil changes service, this is a no-brainer even if you add the cost of oil. BTW anyone planning to run synthetic oil in your new GS?

Actually, I am still entitled to the first dealer complimentary oil change, which I will attempt to "watch." However, I just like working on my own cars. If my first attempt turns out to be a major PIA, I will then use the dealer going forward.

Thanks for sharing information on this forum!

Cool.. Good info.. I'll check them out.. As for the synthetic route, that is what I put in all of my cars since I usually don't exactly follow (for the most part) the recommended service intervals on most of my vehicles..

Anyway, I'm now of the opinion that a regular oil filter wrench is to be used and the entire end-cap of the filter housing gets removed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I snapped a picture of the filter housing or at least I think it is -- comments?
Was this picture taken from the bottom of the car or the top of the hood? Can you please confirm if this is the oil filter housing?

Thanks............

I picked up some Mobil1 5-W30, and UPS should deliver a couple of filters today. Hopefully I'll get a chance to change the oil tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it goes

I recently changed the oil. The filter housing cap was on so freakin' tight. It was a PITA getting it to break loose. Just a plain ol' filter wrench cap that fits will do the job.

You gotta replace the filter element and the rubber O-ring. Remember to lube up the new O-ring, just like you would with a regular screw on filter.

You mention that you used a filter wrench..? I went to my local Kragen parts place and none of what they had fit worth a crap.. I'm tired of using a giant pair of pliers to unscrew the filter body -- it works fine, but makes nice little chew marks on the housing -- not the nicest looking way.. I'd prefer a more traditional tool that works from the get-go.

I believe the car (IIRC) will start complaining at about 5000 miles -- give or take..

I've heard that using a strap wrench works well and it doesn't leave marks. They should be cheap and easy to find at any hardware stores or Home Depot.
