In my opinion it looks more like the new IS than the GS. Either way... the new Sonata is an awesome value.

I couldn't agree with you more. That's what I dont like about the new GS, beautiful car interiorwise and technologically speaking but looks like every other new Asian car on the market. (Nissan Maxima, I can go on) But hey that's the way the automotive industry is.

I don't know...everytime i see one on the streets, it reminds me of an accord. Like soemone mentioned before Hyundai copies things from other companies...a year ago they had a car with a front end that looked 80% like a MB front. You'd think they would tryto be more original

i'm not quite sure that i'd say that they are inept at creating new attractive designs...

i agree in saying that the design is not very original and the sonata has adopted looks of several different cars...

but i believe hyundai has a lot to offer to "surprise" you... one being the incredible jump in reliability in their vehicles... if i'm not mistaken, hyundai's reliability is better than nissan's from the 2005 report.... of course, we'll have to see how that reliability is once they move production over to the united states...

you should also take a look at the concept drawing of the new tiburon... it looks very good and original from what i remember... and the luxurious Equus sedan also looks very good...

i think we should wait and see what hyundai has coming but i don't think that they are inept in creating new designs...

BTW... this discussion belongs in car chat... if the mods would move it.

I actually thought it was a GS when I was approaching an intersection til I got closer. It does looks like the GS rear end from further away.

Uhhh, the new Sonata was released in Korea on September 1, 2004.

So how did it "copy" the 2006 GS?

Acutually saw many last year while on a business trip to Korea. First impressions were that it looked like an Accord and not a GS. Currently own the color of the 3gs posted. I really don't see any resemblence except that its the same color with the stark contrast of the red tail lights.

By the way, I heard the new Sonata is made in the US.

There's only so many more ways left in designing cars. You have round lights (tail or head), rectangle, square, trapazoid, etc. You can place the turn signal horizontally, vertically, down the middle, to the side... eventually, you hit all the combo's and cars start looking like each other.

Geno-staticians calculated that there are about 2 billion facial structure combinations, including race. That means that statistically, more if you're Asian, there are anywhere between 2-4 people in the world that looks just like you. I honestly think there are less than 2billion possible combinations and therefore, more people that look like you, but what do I know about genetics...

Anyways, yea, that Sonata design si not knew and I disagree with the original post, and in my opinion, it looks more like the accord.

when was the accord design released?

I think the new Sonata is what the Accord SHOULD have looked like.
