Side Mirror disengaged
I was washing my GS the other day and when I went to wash the passenger side mirror, it freely moved back and forth from its normal position to its parked position. It felt as though it was disengaged from the mechanism that automatically pivots the mirror when you press the button.
It must have happened recently because I think I would have noticed it freely moving about when I hit a bump, etc.
I moved the mirror to its normal position, then pressed the mirror button on the accessory panel. I hear a click from the mirror, then it parked. Pressing the button again returned the mirror to its normal position. The mirror's working fine again, but I'm going to keep an eye on it. Very weird.

Pole Position
same exact thing has happened to me twice. my brother feels this is a "breakaway" safety feature, should someone (pedestrian?) bump into the mirror. it "gives" rather than breaks.
when this happened I pulled it back into the outward position and then it "clicked" back into place without resorting to any fiddling with the switch.
yep, it's weird, but i do believe there's a reason for it...more typical Lexus and/or Japanese thought and planning ahead.

Thanks winsalem for the comment. Your explanation makes sense, but I didn't hit anything or anyone to cause the mirror to be disengaged. I don't think you did either or else you would have mentioned it. Now that 2 of us have experienced this, it's something to watch.
By the way, I noticed you're in NC. We're thinking of relocating to NC from Ohio in the next year. We're looking at the area north of Charlotte. Beautiful state.
