Default 3GS430: Folding mirrors with Ignition?

I would like to mod my mirrors to fold in/out with the ignition.

Anyone tried this yet?

I love how my dad's '04 LS 430 does that!

It would be a nice feature, but it's not one of the dealer programmable settings.

I know that this is not a programable feature. I was hoping that someone could help me modify or rewire my 3GS so that this would be a feature. I don't think that it would be too difficult. I think that if the switch wiring was accessable that it could be wired to the ignition. Any thoughts/help?

Not trying to throw water on your fire, but I would not classify this as a simply modification. You would have to install motors on each mirror, control circuits, protection devices, etc. It looks like the mirrors are the same between the LS and the GS, but what you don't see is the killer. I have installed a few motors/linear actuators in cars and they can really be a PITA, but you can do it. I guess it's the old saying " I can make a brick fly, how far and how fast depends on how much you want to spend"

This thread got me thinking, went to Lexus home page and it shows the GS to have the folding mirrors. You might want to check you owners manual......

I don't think the mirrors on the GS fold unless you manually hit a button.

yeah this is correct, the 3gs has powered side mirrors, not like the 2gs. just that i don't think it is designed to work with the ignition, which i don't entirely understands why. imho you only want to fold the mirrors when you are not "using" the car?

or if you're impatient and want to squeek by a car so you can make a left turn at a light you can fold them but i do not understand why they didnt tie it into the ignition though...

So then you need them to be independent. Close passing on the left or on the right. :-)

since there is already a button that you can push to fold them in, this shouldn't be hard to do at all. All you would need is a wiring diagram.

Do the mirrors have retained accessory power? If not they will have to tap into a power line that is always powered. The other problem is the mirrors are presently activated by a momentary switch and if you hook it to the IGN switch if you hit the IGN button 2 times the car will go into ON mode and mirrors will swing out... if you start the car at this point without going back to OFF the switch will close again and cause the mirror to swing in as you get ready to drive off. If you can get around that you need to figure out how to wire into the switch as i doubt it it like the old key switches were wire more than likely is solidsate. A wiring diagram for both the GS and the LS would help.
