Default xm satellite and window tinting

I know this has been discussed before, but I’m looking for more answers. I have xm satellite on a 06 GS 300. I seem to get more dropouts than I think are normal. I get a lot of dropouts near trees and most of my friends with xm don’t seem to have the same issues. I wonder if anyone has had any luck moving the antenna from the standard placement on the rear deck shelf under the center brake light. The tinted window is not very dark and not of the metallic based tint. If I were to move the antenna over and away from the tail light assembly, it seems it would have more area that is not obscured from the tail light.

Any ideas?

Default A few dropouts

I get a few dropouts now and then near trees and overpasses and my antenna is mounted outside on the trunk. Probably has nothing to do with window tint in your situation.

i have the XM antenna for my sirius receiver placed in the corner of the rear shelf. reception is great; i don't lose signal from trees and even most overpasses are ok. the only loss of signal is from very low overpasses that are barely high enough for big trucks (18-wheelers). you may as well try moving it.

also, i have a carbon-dyed tint, no metallic content (SunTek Carbon film). no issues whatsoever since installing sirius 2 months ago. here is a pic:

Yeah, that’s exactly what I am talking about. Did you originally have the antenna positioned there, or did you have to move it there? How is it mounted to the deck?

originally mounted there by dealer. it's about the shortest distance from the receiver to the shelf. the receiver is right below, and they just wired it through a small hole i think and then used double sided tape to keep it there. very clean install actually.

OK, I'm about to the point that I can't believe that the reception I'm getting with the XMRadio is considered acceptable. If I am anywhere near a tree, the damn thing cuts out. I have a friend with XM, and his antenna is mounted on the roof. He has absolutely no reception issues. As I stated in my original message, I have the factory installed XM with the antenna now positioned where lexuslover has his, on the deck lid. I see no difference in reception with it positioned there.

I still question my window tinting being an issues. It's 30% and is NOT the metallic tint. Of course the dealer says its working properly. I've tried to get them to test a second car with no tinting, in comparison with mine with tinting, but they never seem to have one with XM available for testing.

Any ideas?

Pull some slack in the antenna wire and pull the antenna out the door and stick it on the roof and drive around and see what kind of reception you get..

I posted a thread about the tint a few days ago. After all the suggestion, i went with the ceramic based tint and the first thing i noticed with the loss of reception on my satellite radio whereas it never did that before, even when i went under a tunnel. The tint guy says that non-metallic shouldn't affect it, but it has. Funny thing too is that mine is mounted on the front of my windshield instead of the back... i think
