Oil change at Toyota
Does anyone here think it makes sense to have oil changes and routine maintenence done at a toyota dealership for their 2006 gs 300's. It is way cheaper.
Let me know what you think.

The Toyota dealers probly have one of the two filters that the '06 GS/IS use, but i'm not sure which one.
04152-31080 RWD GS3 (&IS 250)
04152-31060 AWD GS3 (&IS 350)
Not sure which filter the Avalon uses.
Not sure why they had to use two different filters for the *GRSFE engines too

I called a toyota dealer service dept. and they told me that they use the same filters as lexus.
The difference is Lexus charges $100 for an oil change and Toyota charges $22 for the same service. I quess if you have it done at Toyota you don't get a loaner car and you don't get the $78 car wash.

$100 oil change? is that with synthetic oil or conventional oil? If it is synthetic oil then it is pretty reasonable. If it is conventional oil then i'll say it's a rip off. Who need a loaner when Totoya dealers can guarrantee to do it in 30min while you wait or the next oil change is free.

You have a Lexus why wouldn't you take it to Lexus to get done? Thats crazy you spend over 45k on a car and you worried about saving 78 dollars. Bring it to Lexus and give them some Mobil 1 and this way you know it will be done perfect.

i dont know, if and this is a big IF you had a toyota dealer that can do the job right...why would you **** away $78 a visit? Put that into perspective, say you have the car for 50000 miles and you are religious about changing your oil every 5000 miles. That's 10 times to the dealer, that's a $100 (per visit if you didnt bring your own oil) x 10= $1000. Whereas at a Toyota dealership, you'll be paying $22x10=$220. I dont know about you but i can think of some nice things i can buy for the $780 i'd be saving. Now that's not to say that I wouldnt take my car to a lexus dealer to get the work done, if it's true that they charge $32 if you bring your own oil, then i'll take it Lexus.
I wouldnt take my lexus to the dealer for all my work though, that's just a waste of money when i can take it to my ex-lexus tech to have the same work done for a fraction of the price and he's thorough if not obsessive about doing the right job.

Common people . it is an oil change and not rocket science. ANYBODY can do it. There is a place in my town where people do oil change for $5 (yes, FIVE dollars) provide that you bring your own oil and filter.
$78 may not be a big deal for some people, but if you add them up, it's a lot especially if you have more than one car, a wife and kids to support and mortgage to pay for and etc.

$100? Well not all Lexus dealers charge that. The biggest one in Atlanta (Hennessy) charges about $35 I think. Perfectly reasonable. And excellent service.

my god, $100 for an oil change is ridiculous. is this the price for the v6 or the v8?
oil change is not rocket science, we all realise this. but the problem is just that. oil change is so easy to do, most mechanics are careless when they perform it on somebody's car. they dont fill the right amount of oil, they dont tighten the drain plug, they spill oil on the engine compartment, ect...
from my experience of owning a toyota celica gt-s for 4 years, i've come to realize that toyota dealerships are nothing like lexus dealerships. lexus's serive is top-notch and toyota is and has always been half-assed. the only toyota dealership that satisfied me was longo. downtown,
wondries, mike miller, south bay, carson, they all have horrible service.
but hey, if you know a good toyota dealerships where they take good care of your car, why not save $78? if you find one, let me know because i dont have the time to do my own oil changes.

I take my out of warranty Lexus to the Toyota dealer, and sometimes my in warranty Lexus to the Toyota dealer, if it's just an oil change. Here in Washington, the same guy owns Toyota of Kirkland, Bellevue Lexus, and Tacoma Lexus.
