Default GS430 Horsepower

i was confused about the Lexus GS430 Horsepower ... mostly i can see 300HP appearing in US model.. 279 in the Middle east, europ and japanese models ... HOW COME if it is the same engine and same car ????

another question ... the US version is it in bhp (brake horsepower) or just HP (manufacturer estimated)???

in my dealer's bocklet .. it says 279 HP and the acceleration 0-100km/h (0-62 mph) is (6.1 seconds)

i would like to know the true power of my car ... coz everytime a BMW 545i or SL 500 owner ask me this question he just laughs and says ... u really disappointed me and u r pathetic !!!!

Mabruk on the new car and welcome to the boards...I just saw your other post.

I, too, have been confused by this. Often, horsepower ratings in the Gulf have higher numerals simply becuase we measure horsepower using the SAE Gross method. In the US, they use SAE Net. The difference between the 2 is that Gross doesn't take into account engine accessories, which take away horsepower. Net basically takes this into account, so as a result Net readings are lower than that of Gross.

However, in this case, there is some confusion. Lexus in the GCC happen to use SAE Net readings, as you can see noted here. On the American Lexus site, it doesn't specify whether the reading is Net or Gross and that is where it gets confusing.
Looking at the acceleration timing (1 mile = 1.6 kilometers) the American version does 0-96 km/h in 5.7 seconds as noted here. and the GCC version does 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The difference really is 0.4 seconds, which sounds reasonable for it to get from 96-100 km/h. Then is seems even more puzzling...assuming both figures are SAE Net, there's a difference of 21 horsepower and performance figures are almost identical. Can somebody here please clarify whether the claimed 300 hp is SAE Gross or SAE Net?

In Japan, I hear the highest "offical" horsepower rating is 280 hp. So I can understand why its rated at 279 hp there. I think the best thing to do would be to contact Lexus' GCC headquarters or whoever deals with GCC operations and ask them. They will probably be your best bet. Keep us updated!

Can;t say I live overseas but get tons of the Euro mags and it is a lil confusing. Also, the Japanese "gentlemans agreement" is no longer in effect, the 300hp Honda Legend (our Acura RL) was the first to officially break the barrier.

Gonna do some investigating
