Quick question on what everyone's thoughts are on the 300 rwd in snow conditions. Not talking major snow here(live in TN). I know my IS in the stuff is not a good thing. My mother just picked one up and my concern for her was if this car is ok. The dlr said it would be
but I told her the awd may be a better option. They said it was 10,000 more for awd and I haven't been able to price a GS AWD anywhere near that amt..price still hovers around the 50K mark with or without the AWD and no navigation. Thanks for your help.

we got caught in some snow a week ago in south eastern Oregon (Lakeview - just up from the CA border) in our GS430. It was one of those big flakes kind of snow. We got stopped about 10 miles north when a truck had slid and blocked the road. The was 1"-2" on the road and not packed down due to very light trafffic in that part of the state. Rather than wait an hour or so to get through we backtracked and headed west. Basically, we drove maybe 40 miles on snow and didn't even see the VDIM come on. The standard tires certainly helped but I did wish I had AWD for the extra cushion it would provide. I'm getting a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks tomorrow as we need to head down there over Christmas. I'd say it's a toss up depending on whether you have to drive in it and the amount of other traffic. You don't want to get stopped behind someone who can't get moving and could slide into you.

Lexus of Portland installed Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-03 245/40R18 Run Flats on our GS430.
Kinda spendy but I felt better having them do it because of the Tire Pressure Indicators and the general level of service they give. $280/each + $100 install = $1,220.
It seemed to me that they turned quicker and there's a slight hum for road noise that's different. It'll be interesting to see how they do in the snow. Soft compound and lots of sipes.

RWD in the snow is "okay" with dedicated winter tires, I wouldn't attempt it with all seasons.
Without a doubt, AWD would be better but not "necessary" unless you encounter steep hills on a regular basis.
