it seems VERY high to me for an Oil change and tire rotation! they quoted me $180 for the second service. and we are not talking synthetic or anything fancy!

That's batty. I would change the oil myself and then go to Costco to get a rotate/balance. Total cost would be like $30.

Like it or not, dealers can charge what they want for their service. Lexus service to begin with is expensive, but some dealers really charge way too much.

Try shopping different dealers, you'll be amazed by the difference in price quotes.

that's why you just have them do a regular oil change and check over the rest yourself. I've found it's always cheaper to just have them do the individual maintenances you need done and not let them call it a xx,xxxx mile service.

btw-many reputable tire shops do free rotation

My local Quik Lub charges $29 for an oil change and a wash.It only takes 10 to15 minutes with no appointment.$21 for standard oil(off brand).Lexus is around $55 to$60 (if I remember ) and you need an appointment(1 to2 hours).

Let's not tar all Lexus dealers with the same brush. In Atlanta I'd get oil change and car wash for about $35 at Hennessy Lexus and of course nice coffee, nice waiting area, etc.

With such high operating/maintenance costs for luxury cars, I think its really clever that BMW is offering free maintenance for 4 years/40k miles.

BMW is offering 4yr/50k free maint. I had a MB CLK with free maint for 4yr/50k also, the oil change was done for the CLK @ 12K intervals, for the X5 that I had the service was every 17k or so!!!!! and it was free! so Lexus charging $180 every 5k seems WAY WAY out of line! I will put Synthetic Oil from now on and do the service @ 10k for both the GS 300 and the LX 470!!!!!!!

That IS a lot of money for just that work. I'm a victim too. To the extent it's any consolation, I paid $240 to the Lexus dealer for the 10K service on my wife's `04 GX470. If you check through these forums you'll find that prices for the 10K are all across the map!

I failed to mention that I paid another $240 for the 10K for my `04 SC430! Lexus cars can be expensive habits! Thank goodness that they're damn-good cars!

Are you guys really serious? $180 after driving the car 10,000 miles is unreasonable? I agree that stealers charge to much for oil changes and a tire rotation I could do in an hour in my own garage but.....if you drive an expensive luxury car you should expect SOME maintenance expense. The cars these days require amazingly little maintenance given the performance you get (my old M5 for example requires a valve adjustment every 15k, at least 2 hours of labor but that is why it revs to 7250rpm).

The best part about the BMW deal is the free brakes for 50k, usually at least two sets of rotors and pads. They would charge north of $1k for each brake job. Which of course I also did myself once the freebies were over (about $270 in parts for my wife's 323iT).
