My car was broken into...I give up the 'LIFE'.

oh man,
Sounds like you have some enemies or you lived in a really bad area. I would suggest you move and get and old beat up car that you won't even care about. You know those cars that are all rusted and 15 yrs old. I think even with a prius, as long as it's new, someone will mess with it.
sorry for your losses man,

someone frm NJ recently posted having his new IS broken into in the same fashion--lock cylinder picked and all windows/sunroof opened, without tripping the alarm. It seems that the burglar did not open the door, which would have triggered the door alarm. This is a problem with the "open window with key" feature, which can be deactivated through the CBEST, esp for people living in high-crime areas. Of course if the perpetrator decides to break the window instead, you are screwed.

What a bummer......
I got a call from one of my customers yesterday who used the valet at a restaurant/club in DC. The valet went for a wild ride and totalled her 2004 SC430. When she came out of the club she saw her car wrapped around a lightpost with police car lights etc. and went into shock. I don't think the convenience is worth the risk. NJ may be the car breaking in epicenter of the US. I had a customer park in the lot of the Jersey City Hilton and his doorlock was drilled along with four other cars in the "secured" lot.
Sorry to hear about another story from the Naked City....

Sorry to hear what happened... I can't believe in this day and age that people can't leave other people property alone... When i first staring driving i had my car broken into right in my own drive way.. I know the feeling and the frustration your going through... There should be a law that states "Anyway violating someonelses property will get shot"... Obviously these kids or whoever aren't getting the attention from home so they have to go elsewhere and mess up our personal belongings.... It just isn't fair...

Jlin, Thats hilarious but sad too.
Anyway my Lexus service center says 475 for the door lock and 400 for the tiny dent by the door handle. They recommend leaving it that way. But its not so tiny as that its unnoticeable. The dent where they pry the cover off the lock is actually very noticeable and the paint is cracked..which over the winter will come apart and in time rust if not taken care of. My ex-girlfriend (who btw dragged me to this club. I wanted to go watch 'underworld 2') said she will pay half the bill.

That Is So Sad!!
SO sorry to hear of your loss. It has happened to me as well, and it is a feeling one cannot describe. When someone does not respect another persons' property then it is a sad thing indeed!
It is bad enough to have to navigate away from bad drivers, and then have to worry about your car when it is parked.
Good luck to you!

trust me, I feel your pain. I have had my fair share of car break-ins, keying incidents over the years. These types of events definitely make you ask many questions about what is most important to you and what the consequences are of having nice possessions. Personally I'm from Pittsburgh, which isnt that much of a city to begin with, and I sometimes question whether or not its worth it to have a nice car. If I were an NYC resident, I would most likely go low-key on an vehicle like you said, unless I had a garage maybe. On the other hand, if you're hard-headed like me, just get with your ins company, get everything fixed, and as Mike (1Sicklex) said to me when I got keyed, "Show them haters that you're unfade-able"!

As I walked to it I noticed all the windows fully down. and sunroof wide open. I did a walk around and saw the drivers door lock on the handle popped off. and a small indentation in the door behind the handle where I guess they stuck a screwdriver to pry off the doorlock cover. No alarms went off. It seemed to be a very very neat job. The person/s were looking for goods and got away with my ipod nano. This sucks.
I just had the hood repainted last week after it being totally keyed up and this week someone keyed it again and now this. A month before I repainted the hood I had some minor front fender damage fixed from someone who hit and run. Geico is gonna drown me. One more incident within 3 months and Im sure to sell the car and buy a Toyota Prius.
My last car was an 04 Infiniti G35coupe and it was keyed over and over mercilessly in different areas of NYC. I also seemed to catch a nail or have my tire slashed every month with that car.
I cant have a nice car. Even with valet parking at home and parking in valet garages in NYC and everywhere I go, trouble always follows my car.
I am pretty calm about this now. I guess I've sort of gotten used to it and I am thankful. It could be worse. The thieves could have went further and totally vandalized the car by tearing the leather and breaking glass and such but they didnt. They just took the ipod nano.
I am beginning to HATE people and wish cancer on their mothers and really beginning to HATE NYC but thats just my anger and I dont really mean it. I swear one more incident within 3 months and I will sell it and buy a prius. Nobody troubles a prius.
I live in NJ and I have a plan... you go where you are going and I will videotape your car. This way we can catch the ****ers !!!!!
