xm radio antenna tech
need a real tech head for this one. new gs300 with dealer installed xm. (actually dealer has local auto elec. store do install). they use aftermarket small xm antenna(standard xm vehicle antenna) mounted at top rear of roof. This antenna has a 'single' lead that is routed around rear window seal to unit in trunk. The antenna lead is then split to two leads because box has dual lead attachment. Lexus antennas (there are different sizes, es has large brick, gs has smaller brick) are according to factory specks mounted on side of rear trunk lid(very ugly) Now, xm works on both sat and terrestrial signals from repeaters, i was told( can anyone confirm) that receiver built by pioneer for lexus two leads for antenna is one for sat signal, one for terrestrial signal. Is the antenna supplied have better reception of different signals? because of two leads rather than one lead split with smaller more pleasing roof mount?. can antennas be painted? is there a way of measuring signal strength?. ok now you all, put your propeller beanies on and reply
