If you look at the BMW 5 series sales breakdown, most of their sales are from 525 & 530 . . .

Huh? I thought it's already happened since 1998?

I think what he means is that if they do not introduce the GS460 soon after the GS450H launch with the possible discontinuation of the GS430 . . .

One primary issue with the GS450h may well turn out to be severly restricted trunk capacity. Combine the small opening with only 8 cubic feet of storage and you can forget family trips and/or carrying any meaningful amount of luggage. This may place the vehicle at a serious disadvantage to alternatives. It restricts the GS450h to being a niche vehicle. It suggests an argument for moving forward with the GS460 sooner than later.

I realize this. THe cheaper cars always outsell the more expensive versions of the same car. Same with the IS250, And the base Mustang, and the GS300. Thats the way it is with every car line.

People will buy the slowercar when it looks like the faster car. But I doubt that people buy a 325... because an M3 Exists. And people dont buy a C240 because a C55 exist.

The M3 and the C55 exist to give people things to talk about. Its like free advertising. A symbol of power. I dont think Lexus needs this symbol. The GS350 is fast enough... and they have the GS450H a symbol of power, technology and efficiency in a new age.

A GS460 wouldnt be a "Flagship" car like the M5 or E55 any way. Those cars are more than just a motor in a 5series or Eclass.

To compete with BMW, Lexus should introduce an MT. That would be more useful than a v8.

Default A manual won't sell well in the Luxury Market...

so that will remain an enthusiast's pipedream. The entry level IS250 manual production is already being swapped for more IS350 production here in the East. Everyone asks for the manuals on these boards but then nobody shows up to buy them at the dealerships. Luxury means not having to shift with a clutch. Performance means to many "Let me do it myself ( and turn off VDIM with a switch too)" The buyer that actually purchases the car tilts towards the Luxury side in the end when you're talking 60-80K. The GS460 will have to wait until next year to see how the market is behaving... I need a Halo instead of these little pointed things on my head.

I know that the Manual is highly unlikely in the GS. But I think its just as likely as a 380HP V8 GS, when a 5.2sec 340HP V6 hybrid exists.

However, I am hopeful that the IS350 will get a 6-speed MT.

Few people buy the IS250 MT, because the car is too weak, its not a performance luxury car. Its a luxury car. The IS350 is a performance Luxury vehicle, it should have had the MT.

The only was i see Lexus canceling the 460 in a GS is that they are planning to introduce a high performance GS with the 5.0 (450HP) engine that is planned for the Supra. I can see a GS 500 for 2008 or so. That make more sense than having a 450H and 460 sold next to each other.

the gs460 (ok, let's assume it's here) will hardly compete with the e55 or the m5 man, far from. it's right up there with just the e500 and the 550i. those cars will already give the gs460 a good run for the money, and the e55 and m5 will completely dust the gs460. they are not the same league.

and while having MT is nice, but i am am not sure if we will see it in lexus, and i am not sure if it's what it takes. to me they need some big power numbers (something close to 500hp) on the gs, with good handling (i have yet to see it), and completely performance oriented like the m5.

Yeah, back in 2000, I heard that a new supra was coming out... and I have heard that rumor every year since.

i wonder why the difference horse power in the gs450h and the most likely gs460 are so different from each other... ...one has 339hp and the other is supposed to have 380hp...i never understood the difference between x.2 litters...or in the case of the 460...x.1litter but why is the hp so different. Oh...and in regards to aftermarket stuff for hybrids...i have seen some and heard of some...but i think ppl will not deal with moding the electric motors because if they mess it up...there goes the car...heh ....i do remember that toyota or some toyota mechanics modded the electric motor on a prius to bring about a crazy amount of power...they said the torque was so strong that it was pushing the drivers into their seats like a porche 911 turbo...haha...dunno about that...but there are stuff in the works cuz hybrid cars may soon be a untapped market into bringing about the best that electric motors/batteries can offer.
