I heard the reason they screwed up big time was they couldn't get the 460 engine to fit properly into the GS chasis, and also a 5.0L version will be out as well as the already rumored IS, and an LS version as well.

While I'm not sure whether that's true or not, it is weird that the 460 wasn't there and waiting to fill the 430's gap when it no longer became viable (due to the 3.5L making more power)... so something must be up unless they just didn't want to take away from the LS' thunder by already introducing it in a less expensive car.

Though I have to wonder if they've had such a hard time getting it to fit into the GS, how are there IS500 test cars already running around? The IS is a compacted version of the GS chassis with even less room in the engine bay, I think, right?

How much bigger are the external dimensions of the 4.6 than the 4.3, anyway? Anybody ever compared?

If they are having to try THIS hard to get a good OEM fit of the 4.6 into the GS, though, that really worries me because it means there's a damn good chance that certain repairs will end up being impossible for the average shade tree mechanic and will probably take your local Lexus dealer several days and thousands of dollars in labor to complete.

I'm having visions of the Lamborghini Diablo where the nearly 1-ton mammoth engine literally must be completely removed from the engine bay just to change the CLUTCH, of all things. lol

About this time last month, Automotive News reported that Lexus would reintroduce their L-tuned lineup of vehicles in order to compete in the ever-growing, performance luxury marketplace. Well, it seems that the letter 'L' has been dispatched in order to make room for the real performance division of Lexus.

'F,' as it turns out, stands for 'fast,' and will grace the trunk lid of Lexus vehicles that seek to do battle amidst the AMGs and Ms of the world.

The first F-inagled Lexus to make its debut will be a hotted-up version of the IS sedan, equipped with a 5-liter V8. What was originally assumed to be called the IS500, the newly dubbed IS-F will come with a revised version of the V8 that resides in the LS600h L and will produce upwards of 425 HP. Pricing is expected to come in around $50k, and is aimed squarely at the upcoming M3.

Other models expected to get the 'F' treatment include the GS sedan and a coupe version of the IS.

According to Automotive News, Lexus filed for a trademark on the IS-F and also for the 'F' logo above, however, Lexus has not confirmed the reports.

GS460 (RWD/AWD): 380hp (0 - 96 km/h: approx. 5 seconds)
GS-F (AWD): 450 - 500hp (0 - 96 km/h: approx. 4 - 4.5 seconds)

:thumbs up:

There probably will be both a GS460 and GS-F. They probably just delayed the 460 because they might want some ammo to fight when the infinity M comes out..Its due for a refresh/redesign right?

I think, if they produce a GS-F, it will sport the engine that the LF-A carries (or is supposedly going to carry...God I hope they don't switch it to the V8),
the ~4.8 V10, 500+ hp

If not, it would definitely carry the IS-F's 5.0 V8 but with 'much' more power.
I speculate the IS-f will actually have above 450hp, and if they reuse the engine for the GS-f, it will be closer to 500. Reason being, the old 4.3 V8's race version was pushing 500hp (the same engine is used in japanese super GT, but at 4.5L of displacement). The new 5.0 which the will be racing from next year has significantly more power and they claim it is also more fuel efficient.....

See the thing is, I dont think you can do a performance division with one engine. MB seems to be trying that now...but... If I had my way, it'd be the 5.0 V8, the 4.8 V10 and a reworked version of the Century's V12 (pushing at least 600hp)

The Gen. Manager of a local Florida dealership just told me today to wait for the GS460, as it will be released in June/July. Hope he's right...

I fully expect the GS 460 to have the new 8 speed auto. The LS has the new 8 speed and the IS-F has the new 8 speed.
This will help with fuel economy and acceleration times.

I bet they are having trouble not with the engine fitting in but with the new 7 or 8 speed tranny they will mate it to. That area (tranny tunnel) is pretty tight and if you have a tranny grow due to added gears...then it could be causing problems.

I'm not sure about the size of the 8sp in the current LS. However, at least one magazine and several editors say the gearing ratio in the lower gears hurts the performance time of the LS (couldn't find this article for reference, but I read it while researching the GS460).

"isnt the 8 spd supposed to be more compact/same size as the 6?"

I also read that the 8 speed was no larger than the 6 speed.

the new 8-speed is suppose to be lighter and have less parts than the 6spd. I could see how it's smaller than the previous 6spd if that was the case.
