Yes that's what I'm afraid of too, that Toyota is too business-smart to give the GS the power it deserves (why do it all the way when they can profit twice from two marginal improvements). I still hope Motor Trend made a mistake in their report here.

Everyone should just relax. Since when is MT *the* source of automotive information and scoops? Since when is MT always accurate? Like I said, they've been horribly wrong on "scoops" before.

I am extremely confident it will be 380HP minimum for the GS460. Those "in the know" at CL also say it will be 380HP minimum. Sick and Flip should once and for all post here with the definitive word to banish all this silly speculation .

342HP would NOT be competitive and it would be frankly a stupid move.

Contrary to what some people believe, Toyota doesn't make decisions only for financial reasons. Releasing the GS460 with 342HP would be something that GM would do, a marginal improvement just for a quick profit. Toyota always looks at the long term, and that includes long term competitiveness.

I agree with TRD, and I don't think that many people would pay $8,000 for an extra 2 cylinders and 39 horsepower.

well, bottom line, if the ls460 is seeing 380hp and the gs460 seeing 342, that's just plain dumb imho

sorry for the noob question, but GS460 is supposed to come out in 2-3 months and Lexus hasn't done a single announcement yet? is this normal for lexus to do?

I am definitely getting this car but the wait is killing me, hopefully it comes out soon.

By my experience, it's not surprising for Lexus to keep a very tight lid...with few to no leaks at all. Sometimes the dealership salesmen don't even know, kept in the dark just as we all are.

enigma888 is correct. Lexus is typically very quiet about car announcements until just before the car comes out. We are supposed to get a GS460 press release very soon in a few weeks, along with an IS-F press release.

it is very normal indeed. plus with the ls600hl coming out this month, that would be their focus as well

I was just at the dealership and the salesman told me that just this morning they were given an update on the GS460 - He mentioned that it would have 360 horsepower and a 6 speed transmission... not the 8 speed from the LS and of course 20 horsepower less. I don't know how much weight to put on this, but I don't see the point in designing a 6 speed transmission to go with the new motor when they could distribute the costs of the 8 speed over more units.

Argh this really sucks... let's hope your salesman didn't really know what he was talking about... Can't see why the same drivetrain on the LS can't trickle down to a lesser model.

interesting, have to wait for more confirmations. i have been thinking about the possibility of not seeing the 8 speed all along. it's hard to say, with 8 speed yes they can distribute the cost, but maybe 8 speed are quite a bit more expensive to make to begin with?

and with different tranny, maybe they have to work on the hp numbers (tuning) to adjust correctly. though it might be a bit tough on the marketing

Heck, 360hp is nothing to sneeze at. I know 380 sound a lot nicer and I am sure the 6 speed can handle another 20hp. It shouldn't take much in aftermarket tuning to get the additional 20. Nice air intake and a less restrictive exhaust system. I wonder what would be the restrictions lexus placed on the engine or ecu to lessen the power. 360 sounds better than 342 that was posted earlier in this thread. The wait is killing me. I am seriously thinking of getting one over a LS430.

Interesting. Maybe they want to keep the 8-speed for more exclusive cars (LS-line)?? Plus, the IS-F is coming with an 8-speed at probably around the same cost as a GS460. Maybe they dont want the overlap??

Cant be to upset if that is the correct figures. It'll be just as competitive as the competition instead of underpowered like the current GS430. And if they need to upgrade in 3-4 years when the 4th gen is ready to debut, an 8-speed auto and more power can easily be implemented.

This speculation is getting a bit out of hand ... we need official specs already !

I still stand by the idea that it will be at least 380HP and 8 speed.
