hi all lexus enthusiasts! just got back from 'taste of lexus' and was told that the gs460 will indeed have only 342 horsepower and 6 speeds. i still hope this 'official' is wrong... i went to the event since i'm working at lexus santa monica, which by the way is the most beautiful dealership i have ever seen, simply the best! oh, i also poked around in the lx570 and was what i excpected, no real surprises there. i spoke with an engineer who's driven the is-f and seems like we have something very special just around the corner. if any of you are in southern california or will be visiting, check our place out. feel free to email me at vrezhzatikyan@lacarguy.com, i'll arrange some free time and weclome you

Hello,
I am new to this Forum. My wife and I (we are from Canada) put a deposit on a 2008 GS460 a couple weeks ago. The dealer did have some info confirming that the 2008 GS would indeed include a GS460 with 8 speed automatic but the amount of hp was not available at the time. Hopefully it would be more than 342 as we were hoping that it would be the same as the LS460.

Mercedes really has Lexus beat in the "hand me down" department. The E-Class has always been able to get almost all the cool stuff from the S-Class. Same V8, same 7-speed, air suspension, mini-fridge, massaging seats, RSES, etc. The GS gets NONE of those from the LS. Sad.

At least the 342hp V8 is mated to an 8-speed auto in the Middle East. If the GS460 gets only a 6-speed, where's the advancement?

Let's wait & see what will be officially confirmed for the GS460 in N.America.

The S-class (with the SL & CL) were the first to get the 7-speed, the E-class didn't get the 7-speed until at least a year later. The E-class got the panorama roof option in 2003, the S-class didn't even get that option until the new model for 2007. I don't think the E-class have the airmatic suspension BTW.
The E-Class got the 7-speed during a refresh, so it would seem that the GS should rightfully get the 8-speed upon this refresh. And the LS does have the air suspension since 2001 so isn't it about time that the GS gets it?

forgot to metion... they showed us some pictures of the '08 gs next to the '07 and it's sportier looking. didn't care too much about the orange instrumentation lighting (yes, orange!). i so hope what they told us about the powertrain is not true, but then it was a lexus product guy who's driven everything from '08 gs, is-f and lx570. we'll see...
