adding more fire to the speculation, according to Australian's website, GS460 is expected to have 280kW = 375 hp.

If you go to Lexus.com right now it shows the 2008 LS, 2008 IS and 2008 SC. We're still waiting for the 2008 GS...very soon...

Hello,
I am new to this Forum. My wife and I (we are from Canada) put a deposit on a 2008 GS460 a couple weeks ago. The dealer did have some info confirming that the 2008 GS would indeed include a GS460 with 8 speed automatic but the amount of hp was not available at the time. Hopefully it would be more than 342 as we were hoping that it would be the same as the LS460.

Oh and IS350 has hit high 4s (4.9s) not just in mags but in the hands of owners as well. I believe a few members in the IS forum have hit deep 13s 1/4 mile and 4.9 sec 0 - 60.
Either way, I'm still sticking with high 4s (0-60) and deep 13s (1/4 mile) for the GS460.

First of all, wanted to say hello to all, as I am a new registered member, and this will be my first post! Now, back to the subject at hand. On Saturday, I attended the Taste of Lexus event in Arcadia, CA. When I asked the Lexus rep for any info she might have regarding the GS460, she produced a book which detailed the updates for 2008. In addition to the minor refresh updates listed in many of the posts above, 2 new colors were listed. (I didn't pay much attention to these, as I was more interested in engine info.) And there , in Lexus black and white, was the rating for the GS460 - 342hp. To say I was disappointed, would be a gross understatement. It was difficult to stare at this number in print. But at least I did get to drive the GS350 again. I was very impressed with what Lexus can do with 6 cylinders and, in Feb '08, when I plan on purchasing my new Lexus, this may indeed be my vehicle of choice.

You're not alone in the disappointed department. I can't believe that. The 2008 LS 460 has 380 horses. Why can't Lexus bring that over to the GS 460?

Welcome to CL, coreyco, and thanks for the info! Hmm, it is a bit disappointing but 340 hp is nothing to sneeze at IMHO, it is more than the M45 as stated above.
Still one wonders the difference with the LS 460. Could it be something to do with the way the engine fits into the GS?

340hp is not enough to bring the faithful back into the fold. Why produce two different motors and or/ecu's? Heck by the time this engine is out everyone else will be over 380hp. Again, 340hp is good on paper and with that new trans (or will the GS get screwed with that as well) it should pick up fine and be more than enough power for most but many will still wait on the sidelines (or the Infinity dealer) and scratch their head at Lexus headquarters.

If so, GS450h for me. 342 would be a HUGE disappointment to me.

I dunno, I think it makes sense to have the GS460 be less than the LS460. You want your flagship to shine, right? 342 isn't like you're running on Kool-Aid or hot air alone, anyway.
