OFFICIAL 2008 GS 460 Thread! (new info 342hp?)

The only thing I can think of is they lowball the GS 460 and sell a GS 500 with 400hp?
Seriously 342 is under the A6 4.2, the 550, the E550, ALL the Germans. That would be a huge mistake, IMO, especially in a HP hungry world.

I still hope somehow both MT and C&D got the wrong info as 342hp would indeed be very disappointing given the difference between the GS460 and the LS460 and the fact that the GS is supposed to be the top line sports sedan in the Lexus lineup. As 1SICKLEX stated, if the 342hp turns out to be true, the IS350 with 306hp just becomes so much more interesting in light of the likely $20,000 or so price difference for only 36hp.
Great point.

IF this car comes out with 342HP (and it is starting to really look that
way) it willl be THE laughinstock of the executive V8 class.
This is what I think of 342HP on a brand new V8
I've exceeded the thumbs down limit on this post, but in reality I was
going to add another 100,000.

Hmm, maybe the title of this thread has to be changed, a case of overpromise and underdeliver (expectations-wise). So far Lexus hasn't said anything, Lexus.com is updated except for the GS...
...if it is a deception campaign, it is really extensive to have C&D, ToL people all give out the 340 hp numbers....the burden of proof is now on whether this 380 hp number is true or not.

I need to call corporate, this rumor makes me cringe. 342...sigh...

Really makes no sense at all. Seriously, if it is 342 HP, what's the point?
I'm not saying that 342 HP is a slouch, but it is not competitive at all. Especially when you consider that this is will probably be the last V8 update before the 4GS comes along.
I'm going to order a 08 Tundra crewmax, which means I will be waiting for the 4GS.

I for one is already only looking forward for the 4GS, even a 380hp GS460 now won't get me overly exited . . .

GS460 versus IS-F?
Maybe Lexus thinks a 390hp GS460 will pretty much kill the 415hp IS-F.
I don't know about you guys, but if both are priced around $55K, I would pick the GS.
By throttling the 4.6 V8 on the GS, the IS-F retains a clear performance gap in the Lexus lineup.

380HP 4GS?
I was thinking more along the lines of a 400HP (Maybe even a few more) GS500 bt then
Reason being, the LS would probably be ready for a mid-cycle refresh by then and if history is any indication, it would likely get an engine upgrade.

Don't fail me now Toyota; this is a deception campaign, I called it first .
In all honesty, there is just TOO much that does not make sense with having a 342HP GS460. It's too close to the GS hybrid's performance and HP rating, it's not a big enough gap between the IS350/GS350, and it's uncompetitive right out of the gate.
There is nothing strange about including MT, C & D or others in a deception campaign. I actually remember both C & D and MT last year both saying they had "scoops" that the Tundra's 5.7L V8 would have 330-350HP . Those were in fact the same numbers given to some Toyota people during product training for the Tundra.
A 380+HP GS460 would not interfere with the IS-F, as the IS-F will easily have over 420HP and the car will be about more than just HP.
Flipside909 or SICK, do you know the ETA when the GS460 info is supposed to be out? It's supposed to be August for a press release right, along with an IS-F PR?
