I wonder how much OEM parts would be? Seems as though the screen is already there...

Tough to say. On a 2GS, it was not that easy or cheap. The 3GS is still so new that I would be surprised if someone has gotten that adventurous already. I guess you never know though.

I retrofitted OEM NAV on my Mercedes C320 for about $900 (I had a great Mercedes parts connection - refurb unit) - it was a very simple swap - 30 minute job.

I wonder if the whole unit would need to be swapped or just some internal components changed.

The 2GS retrofit is not that cheap, even with hook up, used (unless you have a REALLY good Lexus hookup ). I remember that not only the units were needed but the entire wiring harness.

by the way - I'm just thinking about this because I've found a great deal on a used GS...$459/mo lease with $2500 down or $0 down $539/mo...it just doesn't have NAV.....so in the future when the NAV units are more prevalent, I might look at upgrading.
