Default Gas Mileage on the 450h's

Attention fellow 450h owners:

Let's get some input on your gas mileage

My NM Edition is averaging 21 mpg. Freeway driving at 70 is averaging 25 but it's almost impossible to drive 70 with this thing. Street driving is pretty bad because I like to feel the power. The meter is all over the place from below 10 to around 20. Average street and freeway is 21.

Wish it were better but.....OH WELL!! Stil love my NM Edition!

It sure beats the 12 mpg I get on my LX470

Wow, that is a lot lower than I expected, but maybe it's because
your car is not broken in yet? I thought the car mags were averaging
26mpg...

Keep us up to date on how this goes.

Congrats by the way! Awesome car

if it is your first time owning a hybrid...you still have to figure out how to drive the car to use the least amount of gas...

Default 21/24

With very limited mileage (<250) it looks like I am doing about 20 or 21 in town and about 24 or 25 on the highway (very limited mileage). Some of which is attributable to my driving style I would expect.

For comparision purposes, my 1997 ES300 gets about 16/17 in town and 28/29 on the highway, so for most of my driving the GS450h actually gets better mileage in an obviously better, faster, and cooler package.

Also, I seem to recall from one of the Prius forums that many drivers experienced improved mileage as the cars broke in.....don't know if that is actual improvement in efficiency of the powertrain or improvement in the operators ability to drive a hybrid efficiently.

Will post updates as mileage increases.

yes, mileage should definitely get better once the car is broken in. I was only averaging 24mpg in my RX400h when it was new but after 4000-5000 miles or so it improved. I now average 26-28 in mixed city/highway driving. The roads you drive and your driving style also can make a huge difference. If I try really hard (accelerate very slowly) and take the right roads (where I can go a constant 30-35mph with few stoplights) I can easily get 33 mpg in my RX hybrid.

Whew, now I don't feel too jealous

All kidding aside, I'm sure your gas mileage will improve with more miles. Keep us updated.

Had a chance to take the GS450h on an extended highway trip for the first time this past week. DC to Hatteras Village, NC is about 700 miles round trip and about half interstate and half state/county highway. The GS averaged about 28 - 29 miles per gallon across three fill-ups and an average speed of about 65 over the course of the trip. Was actually pushing 30 with the cruise control on at 70, but its tough to do on I-95 as you can get run over at that speed.

Still making about 20 - 21 around down on trips of less than 10 miles average.

After about 5 months I am getting about 23+ mpg for all in-city, short trip driving. No opportunity for a road trip or extensive freeway driving yet. For the same driving routes my former 05 Acura RL got about 16.5 mpg with less performance so am very pleased with the increased performance and mileage in the 450h.

My 450h has 6200 miles on it. I did two trips between Portland and northern CA in the last couple of weeks and averaged 27mpg.

Wow, I expected the hybrid to do a little better than that. I have gotten 26-28mpg @ 75mph with my GS350.

thanks for posting some real world results. i am a little surprised at the low mpgs. i didn't expect too much in that dept after seeing how my friend's RX hybrid stacks up to my regular gas RX (about 3-4 mpg better), but the GS hybrid mpg seems a little disappointing, which is a bummer b/c we really enjoyed it at the Taste of Lexus and thought it might replace our 430 in another year when the lease or so when the lease is up.

our 430 easily gets 26mpg when i drive between LA and San Diego for business (avging 75-80mph). around town its more like 17mpg.

i hope you will post again in a few months with more mpgs. i think it gets slightly better, but not that much. i think most of the time it gets better based on your new hybrid driving style rather than actual breaking in ... my friend has become a total "hybrid driver" and drives super slow in parking lots and neighborhoods to avoid the gas engine kicking in
