I think the dvd function only exists in certain countries. There is an old thread around (over a year ago) that talked about this. Easy way to tell is look at the front of the radio and look at all the logos there (where the Mark Levinson logo is). If you do not see the DVD logo, then your car does not have the capability to play movies. If you do, then to play movies:
1. Put the car in park
2. engage the parking brake (the emergency brake pedal on the far left)
3. turn the car on (if not already on)
4. insert the dvd like any other cd and select it. it will play automatically.

Mo.Altamim (Mohd. Al Tamim)
The only way you're gonna get DVD's to play in your car is to find someone who imported a US version and swap it - or find a crashed one and see if you can get their centre console - as I said earlier - look for the DVD symbol displayed near the Mark Levinson symbol to know if it will play DVD's.
Our top-spec version of the car lacks the following:
- Non Direct Injection Engine on GS300 - Less Power: 231 (US / Europe Version: 245)
- No Voice Recognition (an extra button on the right side of the steering wheel)
- No Smog Detector (the recirculate button on the AC has no AUTO setting)
- No Tire Pressure Sensors
- Can't Play DVD-Audio or DVD's
- No four-wheel-drive option on the GS300
A lot of Emaratis have imported US versions of this car - just remember Al Futtaim motors will charge you extra each time it is serviced - and whenever parts are needed, if they are different from the Asia Pacific version, you will have to wait a long time for replacements...
Good Luck

It seems that us Middle Easterns get the chepeast specs!!!! I live in Bahrain, and I just got my 2006 GS 430 and I noticed my mark levenson system doesn't have the DVD Logo next to it the ML logo!! We also don't have the mark levenson with 7.1 surround which is kinda pissing me off big time, but again I thank god that I got this wonderful car, and at least we got a great navi system and the touch screen..lol
Best Regards to you.

Yeah - it's true - we really got done with the GS's out here - I still can't get over the 2003 Toyota Crown engine we get on the 300 instead of the updated Direct Injection version like everyone else has!
What's pissing me off even more is that the new ES350 has arrived here - and guess what - in terms of options it has everything the GS has, and a few more:
- Voice activated NAV
- ML with ability to play DVD, DVD-A & 7.1 surround...etc.
- Gen 5 Nav
- Smog Sensor (Auto Recirculate)
- Auto folding mirrors
- More powerful engine
The only downside to the ES is that it will probably look like the coming Toyota Camry (and thefore the entire fleet of Gulf Taxis), oh, and it's front wheel drive.
