I am just curious because I am a little concerned to go this long without changing the oil. My driving is 80% on the highway at over 65mph hour. I am running GTX castrol dino. My tech at the dealership tells me I have noting to worry about.

Hmmm... I've never done 5k on anything other than a synthetic on any one of my other cars. My GS is at 3300 miles, so I will definitely be interested what they are running my ride on when I go for my 5k...

Bulk oil that is why I bought them castrol GTX when I went for my free service because I didn't want them using bulk oil in it. However I am thinking of switching mobil1 this way I will fee safe going 5k but when I used it in my 02 gs since it was new it started to leak oil after 42k miles so I always blamed the mobil 1. So I swore I would never use it again. In that car I used it since it was new and never had a problem until at 42k my rear main seal starting leaking oil.

Its kind of strange I have always heard every 3k miles but lexus swears up and down that they 5k miles will be perfectly fine. I recently cracked the 5k mile mark and when I had the oil change done the tech allowed me to go into the back to check out the work area and the oil that was being drained from my car looked as if it was new, and my driving is highway and street.

If the manual says its you can go 7k miles w/o a oil change if you drive mostly on the fwy then how in the world do you get rid of those annoying "OIL MAINT REQD" error messages that come up every 4500 miles. I drive 85% on the fwy(about 2500 miles a month) and I go 7500 miles between oil changes. Anyone else in the same situation?

I always wondered why Lexus requires oil changes at 5k intervals, while other manufacturers like MB and BMW have much longer intervals. My girlfriend's E350 needed an oil change at about 13,000
