Why the GS300 over the M35

I will also admit it, the fact that the GS is a Lexus played a fairly
big role in the decision. Infiniti is still 2nd tier and their fit and finish
felt average at best.
Definitely wait a couple of months for the GS350. That fifth gen NAV
system is stunning. It should also be blazing fast, almost V8 fast.

Its funny you say that about the M considering it ranks the highest in its class in almost every category including fit and finish by numerous magazines and is consumer reports #1 luxury sedan. The VQ engine in the M35 has been regarded as one of the best V6's ever created

different audience than the GS. Once I test drove the M, I knew right
away it was not the car for me. The VQ engine while quite nice is also
dated and not terribly efficient.

having driven a g35 coupe w/ the same vq engine found in the m35.. all i have to say is that thing is a serious gas guzzler. the new v6 in the gs300 will get you noticeably better gas mileage.

I was reading about the next years Infiniti models. The VQ will be upgraded to be be more efficient....putting out more power with less effort and better gas mileage. That's good news since my plan is to get the new model G35 next year.

As a former FX35 owner, I can attest to the large fuel requirements of the Infinitis. Our FX35 did no better than 19 MPG on Premium gas! I think it has more to do with gearing than engine fuel consumption. The low gears made for a quick vehicle, but gave it lousy fuel economy. At 65 MPH or so, the tach was reading nearly 3000 rpm. If it had a sixth gear, that could be dropped to 1800-2000 and get much better highway mileage.
BTW, the FX was replace for a new IS250, and we love it!
