GS 350 slightly weaker than IS 350?

3 ponies isn't much at all considering the number of things they could have done different including making the intake quieter (but thus a bit more restrictive), take a few measures to quiet down the direct injection, more restrictive but quieter mufflers, or maybe the exhaust routing just didn't allow them to take the most efficient path. At least those are typically the reasons given by engineers when the same motor in a different car makes slightly more or less power.
My question is how in the WORLD do they expect to sell GS430s when GS350s now make MORE power? Granted the torque isn't quite as good, but most people focus on peak power ratings when car shopping - not because they should, but because they don't know any better.
I know the GS460 is coming out sooner or later but what about in the mean time?

I agree!
I'm hoping that the GS 460 launch turns out like the 2001 GS 430 launch. There wasn't a lot of fanfare to it but when then they updated the LS in 2001 they also dropped the new V8 into the GS at the same time - even though the sheet metal on the GS was only three years old at the time. When you think about it, it makes sense. Historically, the GS and LS have had the same basic V8 with the GS getting a few more horses. When Lexus refreshed the LS in 1998 that was the same time they launched the 2nd generation GS. When they launched the current LS design in 2001 with the 4.3 liter V8, they also put the new V8 in the 2001 GS.
I hope that with the announcement of the GS 350 that the GS 460 will soon follow. Otherwise, why would anyone pay the extra money for a GS 430 when the GS 350 has more power for thousands less.

My view is that Lexus will release the GS460 at the same time or very shortly after the LS460 hits dealership. Many are waiting for the GS350 and Lexus shouldn't make them wait.
GS430 performance is quite behind the BMW 550 and the soon-to-be-released 382hp Mercedes E550.

gs430 is a special order car now, so you can kinda say it's "discontinued", and they are just selling the gs450h more to cover the gs430. just wait for the gs460 next yr

from jp site, the gs350 is only 40lb heavier than the is350, i don't think weight is that much of a difference here

You can't really compare the GS350's HP with the GS430's HP. Like we all know the GS350 has 303 HP under the new SAE ratings. The GS430 has 300 HP with the old SAE ratings. I think with the new SAE the GS430 is around 290 HP. So the GS350 has quite a bit more HP than the GS430.
