This was the most interest to me and probably to you all. The Sale rep said that the 350 has the 430 transmission, I had not heard that before and was wondering if you all had heard that? Let me just say you will not be “wowed” by the acceleration from the 300 to the 350, however there is a small noticeable difference in 0-60.

I remember the GS300 0-60 was spec'ed at 6.8 Seconds or somewhere around there.
If Lexus claims the GS350 can go 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, there should be a difference right?

The GS350 seems to accelerate plenty fast to me. It's just that the acceleration is very smooth, not a jolt that pops your head off. If you want a sports car-like, mash-you-into-the-seat feeling, this isn't the car you should be looking at, anyway.

As for the Lexus to BWM thing, I recently traded-in my `04 SC430 for a CPO `05 BMW 645ci convertible. What a car! It was purely impulse. I had gone to the BMW dealership because I had seen the 645/650 cars, liked their looks, and was curious to see them up close. It happened that it was about 10:30am on a Saturday and there weren't many customers around, so I had the full time and attention of a salesman. We took the car out on a very long test drive (with the top down) and the deed was done. I had had no complaints or problems with the SC, it was just that the BMW was a lot more powerful and roomy, not to mention the sports package 19'' wheels, Bluetooth, voice recognition, adaptive headlights, remote top, and 325hp! We're still part of the Lexus family though, as we do not intend to part with our `04 GX470 for a while yet.
Good luck with your decision! It sounds like you may have the best of both worlds, given your relationships with your Lexus and BMW dealerships. At the least, you will have a lot of fun driving those cars while you are making your decision.

well im also having a rough time lately especially with the new BMW 3series coupes just being released. Ive had my 2IS for about a year now and with the coupes being released im tempted to jump ship ?? Im just very worried about the reliability issues one always hears about with bmw's plus the coupes being the 1st models of it types i just may wait a bit.

Sorry but you will notice a difference. 0-60 in a second less and a near flat 14 sec 1/4 mile to a 15 second one is a very noticeable difference.
One thing about Lexus cars, they are so smooth and quiet, its hard to tell sometimes the differences in cars.
If a GS 300 lined up against a 350, the 350 would win by almost a car length to 60mph and that would just extend as speed progressed.

When I took my RX300 in for service a while back, they gave me an RX350 as a loaner and I was amazed how quickly the thing got up to 80 on the freeway without any real feeling of acceleration or strain. Smooth acceleration is clearly a Lexus design goal, and the GS350 is a great example of it.

Torgue gives you more "pushed back in your seat feel" horsepower give you more of a acceleration once you are already moving at a good rate. Thus the 430 will give you more of a launch but the 350 will give you a stronger acceleration once you're under way.
It seems that the 350 raises that speedo faster than the 300 in the ~30 mph upwards range but since the torgue is not 430ish, you wont feel much difference from a dead stop.

The 6 speed tranny is very smooth...it almost feels seamless like a CVT. It doesnt shift harsh so you feel every shift. Just lay your foot into the pedal and the car will move. ECT PWR OFF and TRAC OFF do wonders. Drive it for yourself to experience it. Just read the reviews and use them as reference. Because in the end, you will be the owner of the car, not the naysayers.

Real numbers tell the difference, human perception does not. My '99 RX300 and '98 Accord V6 both reach 0-60mph in the 8 second range but for some reason my Accord always feels faster (probably because it's louder getting there) than the Lexus. 6.8 or 5.7... of course I'll take the 5.7 in the GS350, for those 'special' occasions when I might need it at a green light...
