I used 10% because it's a higher end average that most people in the GS target demographic (young-middle age adults), whose investment risk tolerance is higher, can average.
So...if it makes you comfortable, you can buy CDs which guarantee 5% currently so do the calculations at that. The point is, you're still making your money work for you instead of letting it rot.

I forgot one other item that must not be forgotten along with risk...
Capital gains tax.
I was wondering why the cars value has any bearing in these conversations.
I mean if we could lease a car that went up in value, wouldn't you still want to keep your money and invest it just the same, only come out even further ahead?
I have a neighbor who I was speaking with about cars and debt and she said, "I would never pay my car off, it just depreciates in value."
I submit that a debt is a debt regardless of how the item purchased performs, so why do we discuss the cars value as a neg thing.
I don't really think it has a real impact other that make people flock to leases and long purchase agreements and feel more comfortable.
Any comments?

Damn....this is why some posts become 4 pages long...it's because people get off point....I thought this thread was about how fricking old GS owners are....but just like some other posts....peoples IQ's or whether or not one has graduated from college seems to be were these posts go.
Myself....I'm an old dude at 44...definately don't feel it...GS is paid for....would never lease a car...like to own my cars...and don't care about depreciation(more things to worry about)(family and work).

Yeah, I am 21. Had the GS since August and loving it. I had an IS300 as my first car when I was 16 and we've had a lot of Lexus' in the family since before then. My mom just got a LS460L which she is really enjoying (now that it works, long story).

Hey hey there... easy. Didn't your parents teach you to respect your elders? Don't crack jokes about our age and we won't crack jokes about how Mommy and Daddy decided to spoil a young kid barely out of high school. =Þ
hehehe yeah us 28-29 years are officially no longer young. We crossed that line at 27.

Mainly though, with people living longer, what used to be middle aged is still pretty young. Back in the 1800's, life expectancy was only 30. In the 1900's it was 60. Now what it's, 80 or something?

this thread is sooo full of crap and skewed toward the young who happen to be forum junkies....like me. Most people I see diriving these have a head full of greys or even better are menopausal, no joke. They are at the doctors offices rather than on the net at work ...LOL
