Simple/Safe method to add aftermarket subwoofer/amp?

Now that my brother has picked up a new GS350 (white) he is planning some exterior upgrades and I'm responsible to upgrade his stereo.
For those of you with/without the Levingston upgrade, what did you guys do?
I know the ML system has a subwoofer but I see a very convenient pass-through section.
Where did you guys tap the signal for a subwoofer? I was thinkin about using a JL clean sweet but think that is overkill since I only need a subwoofer signal and not touching the front speakers.
For the sub box design was thinking either running a single 12" sub in an infinite baffle setup with a board mounted to the sub or maybe a pair of dual subwoofers firing in a V-shape into the cabin?
Amp will most likely be an Alpine PDX mono or JL mono amp.
Anyone with experience please post your installs!@
thanks,
rick

just use a simple line output convertor and tap the speaker output from the sub. i did this in my IS 250 and it works perfectly. I actually disconnected the factory sub also. I tapped the signal directly from the sub, but you can probably tap the signal from the amp located in the trunk. Dont even bother with a clean sweep, unless you're planning to replace all the speakers and use additional amps. It would be overkill for just adding on a sub.

Thanks IS250, that is kinda what I thought too about the clean sweep.
Wow the amp is located in the trunk, how convenient!
I will do some further investigating once we get the car taken apart. Looks like the hardest part is going to be running the power cable from the front of the car battery.....
I'll probably use the amp for the signal since we'll also have to grab a remote turn-on wire to trigger the amp.
much thanks,
rick

If you want BASS!!! Then i suggest you get either a 10 inch jl audio w6 or w7, the w7 i believe will be a little too much for the gs, but if you love bass that much then check it out, and for the amplifier i would go with the jl audio monoblock!!!!
