Default GS350 Tires road noise!!

Hi Guys,

I just bought my GS350 today. The Yokohama 245-40ZR-18 tires are VERY noisy. Seem to handle very well, but I would like a much more quiet tire. Any suggestions from anyone who has already changed them out? Also, How much should I be able to get from the Yokohamas with a 100 mi on them?

Thanks in advance
Brian

It's kind of funny that everyone complains about how noisy the
Yoko Advans are. If you look at the Tire Rack user reviews on the Advans, everybody mentions how quiet they are relative to all the other tires they have tried.

That being said, I too agree that the tires are quite noisy. I think a lot of it has to do with the excellent noise isolation in the GS350. The car is so damn quiet that the only thing left to complain about is the tire noise. I think any reduction in tire noise would have to be at the sacrifice of performance. These certainly aren't the best performing tires out there but then again, the GS is not the best handling car. You might want to look into the Yoko AVS db. I believe that tire is designed to be ultra quiet for a low profile high performance tire. It doesn't fall into the category of ultra high performance like the Michelin PS2, Bridgestone RE050, Pzero Rosso, or Conti Sport Contact IIs but neither does the GS350 so it should be fine. BTW: depending on where you are located. My bid starts @ $100/tire for your Advans. I might be needing a set pretty soon here if I keep it up. 2800 miles in 4 weeks of ownership!

I recently replaced my old Falken tires with Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S and I'm
very pleased. The Pirelli is so quiet that I can't hear anything except wind
when cruising on high way. It handles well too. Highly recommend this
tire.

I believe the tirerack ratings for the Michelin PS2 make one of the quietest and most comfortable low profile tires, even though it's performance based.

Only bad thing is the price, but for me it's worth it to pay more for a quieter tire.

Discus the situation with your Lexus salesperson and the tire center manager (at the dealer).

They may be able to work out something to your satisfaction ...

Thanks for the info. I agree the car has virtually no wind noise, so I do think you hear the tires more than usual, but it is too loud for me.

Since you live in Ca, I will keep your bid in mind.

I agree completely. I have 19" PS2s on my 997S and they are exceptionally comfortable. I had 18" PZero Rossos on my 996 and they had a terrible ride. I'm not sure how much PASM has to do with the improvement in ride but the PS2s handle great and there is very little noise. The drawback is that they are about $500/each for the rear 295/30/19s! I anticipate about 9k miles per set.

Went back to the dealer today. They offered to switch them for the OE Dunlops for labor $125. So we test drove a GS with the Dunlops, virtually no difference! Now I am wondering will I find a tire that will be a SIGNIFICANT difference in road noise?

As previously stated, look at the Yokohama AVS db. It is specifically designed for reduced noise, hence the "db" as in decibel. Call up Tire Rack and ask for Damon, he will steer you in the right direction.
