Cool Question on the 430's brakes

Hi

I am looking to replace my 2000 GS400 with a GS430 or GS350. I have read a lot of articles that damn the brakes in the 430. I am curious if anyone has one and can comment on his/her experience with the brakes so far. I am in NYC and if you didn't know it, the 430 is a "special order" so i have to go to North Carolina (closest) for a test drive. No 430's in the Northeast. (Has Lexus actually dumbed down that much?)

Thanks

can't tell you much on the brakes, but you really can't wait couple of months to get the gs460 instead? imho there is almost no reason to get the gs430 now..... it's very expensive, not as fast as the gs350 (cheaper), and the gs450h is faster and better too

Yeah, I would suggest the 350 also, 304hp stock. It eats the 430, unless your going to get a price under the 350 for left overs.

GS460? Is it a done deal? Every time I have looked for any signs or asked any questions, I hear more that they are not sure what to do with the GS4 and are even considering dumping it. Please enlighten me as I expected a GS460 from the start.

To what i know ... the new GS350 /GS430 use 4-piston calipers similar to the LS430 (the one that was just replaced), but the mounting points are different, and the GS rotors are slightly larger.

So in theory these brakes should be quite ok, but likely Lexus USA have optimised these brakes for low noise/ (relatively) low dust (although they likely changed to a pad with better friction, thus more dust), ...

What i would do is ... replace pads with aftermarket performance pads and get stainless steel brake lines

I have a 2006 with 20k miles, and had to have the front brake pads replaced - at my expense. Anyone out there have a similar experience, especially one where the dealer covered the cost?

I put my 07 430 through some tough braking and so far only the hard brakes cause a noisy churning, but nothing abnormal. The brake pedal gets less stiff IMO compared to the 350, my 430 has less miles and the brake pedal is not firm whereas my 350 feels like the day I bought it.

What do you mean by "eats"? I drove both and there's absolutely no question that the 430 is a lot more powerful than the 350. Remember the saying, "you buy horsepower, but drive the torque." V6 and V8 are in different worlds on torque.

How is that possible when GS 430 has more horse power than a GS 350 ?

The GS350 has 3 more horses under the hood compared to the GS430 (303 v. 300)

The difference in brake pedal feel that our friends back in 2007 mentioned is likely due to the 430's electronic brake actuator, that the 350 does not have. The two '08 GS460s I've had years prior had a different pedal feel to the '08 GS350 that I have now.
