Default GS350 Matador Red

Hello,

I am new to the forum and to lexus! I just traded in BMW- X5 for a Gs350 AWD. I want to know the largest wheel I can put on my new car. I was told that you can not stagger the wheels on the AWD models. I am interested in the Modular 3, Gfg lagunas, and Auto Couture wheels 3 pc wheels if I can do a trun stagger 8.5 in front 10-10.5 in back

The biggest problem with staggered wheels is how slight differences in rollout will affect the center diff. There is a well known problem with Lamborghini Gallardos where owners have added aftermarket wheels that ultimately lead to a complete failure of the center diff and Lambo voided their warranty. Drive into a Lambo service facility with aftermarket wheels and you will find out real quick what they think about changing out the stock wheels. Same thing with Porsche 996 and 997 Turbos.

The most important thing is to make sure that you don't rely on what your wheel guy tells you. Ultimately it's your warranty so make sure that you do the calculations to ensure that the wheel rollouts are exactly the same front to rear. If they are off by even 1cm, your center diff will think that there is wheel slippage somewhere and constantly divert traction to the wrong axle ultimately leading to failure of the diff. One other important factor to consider is that altering width of the tires front to rear will create discrepancies in traction front to rear and will alter the handling dymanics of the car substantially. Adding width to the rear will induce more understeer. Adding width to the front (why would you do this anyways) will induce oversteer. With AWD and traction control, none of the traction issues should matter but consider the rollout issue for sure.

Your wheels are staggered aren't they? You have a wider lip in the rear than the front. Are you running the same size wheels/tires with different offsets front to rear and spacers to look staggered? If so, that's awesome!

The choice is totally yours, I will not debate the whole 4WD staggered thing, I'll just say that I have done AWD cars with staggered setups (and verified their long term real world reliability) and I've done AWD cars with the same width wheels but staggered lips (like the link with the iFORGED wheels).

So whatever route you choose we can accomodate you. In addition to the iFORGED wheels, we also carry AUTO-COUTURE, MODULARE, and ZONE wheels. (I think you will like these designs).

Feel free to contact me ( sales@d2autosport.com / 877-361-0296 ) for a quote on any of the aforementioned brands.

FYI here's a few links:

iFORGED

ZONE

AUTO-COUTURE

MODULARE

When I spoke to Jong he made his concerns clear and for the most part he just wanted to run the same size tire (more cost effective and easier to find replacements etc) so I suggested we go the same width, staggered lip route.

The wheels are custom made with the 1.5 and 3.0" lips and there are no spacers or anything of the sort required.

We do alot of staggered lips on AUDI's (the A4's have such shallow wheel wheels that the lip is actually larger that if you actually ran a wider wheel). We also do them alot on SUV's like this MB GL450 (22x10, 2 and 4" lips)
