RWD or AWD in snow.

[QUOTE=pcohen;2254377]The decision on AWD vs RWD isn't quite that binary. No question AWD is the safest way to go, especially if you have no snow experience. But more important than the drive is the use of winter tires. A RWD with good winter tires will actually outperform an AWD with average all seasons. I have owned both setups in the east. When it snows, I put on winter tires and rims, easy to change, and plow through just about anything.

I agree with most of this but I don't know that I would say it would outperform as much as I would say almost as good as AWD with a good driver. Good example, I previously owned an IS 300 with 5 speed. I left the summer tires on (not smart), but I drove up a mountainous road to take my wife to work. I had trouble in a few places, but I took it easy (turned off traction control for the RWD) and made it (in snow). As usual, a lot depends on the driver. I would say less sweat on the brow when driving an AWD with all seasons than a RWD with snow tires. From experience, a RWD with summer tires requires a good shower and new underwear when you get home.

are just doing the typical enthusiast BS of RWD is the best. For the
average driver I can guarantee that AWD is the safest and easiest to
control under most circumstances.
