Fm Adapter/Sirius Car Installation

Fm Adapter/Sirius Car Installation
Hi,
I have a GS 300 2006. I received a new Sirius portable Stiletto that doesn't get good FM transmitter reception. It has been recommended to use an FM adapter that plugs directly into the "antenna". Has anyone done this on the GS? I am not sure where to start and if I can do it on the ML audio system.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

your stiletto has an internal antenna,no?
does it have an input for an external antenna as well?
if so,you can get an antenna from best buy or circuit city for about $35.00.
or are you refering to the signal from your stiletto to your deck?
If that's the case you would have to see if there's a audio jack out where you can run a cassette tape adapter to get the best sound.

Here is what they suggest (from Sirius forum)
I've received a few questions about the FM Direct Adapter (FMDA25) that I received with my Stiletto Car dock.
I thought I'd post them here so everyone else can find them.
Q- Does the adapter need power.
A - No it does not. You only connect the it between your radio and AM/FM antenna and connect a wire to your Car Dock. No other connections are necessary.
Q-How do you know if you need any special adapters
A-If your Car Radio and Antenna use a standard Coaxial Motorola Connector then you do not need any adapters.
The last question begs some pictures and definition.
First off what is is a Coaxial Motorola Connector:
Well with the help of WikipediA
A Motorola connector is a common coaxial cable connector used primarily in the automotive industry for connecting the coaxial feedline from the antenna to the radio receiver. It is also sometimes used for connecting scanner antennas to scanners. The male plug somewhat resembles an RCA connector in size and shape, but instead of being concentric to the pin, the sleeve is "folded" back over the coax.
The pin is soldered to the center conductor of the coaxial cable coming from the antenna, and the grounded side forms a 1.5 inch (38 mm) long sleeve around the coax. The sleeve usually contains one or more longitudinal spring surfaces, which provide reliable electrical contact by wiping against the mating female socket
Here is a picture of the Sirius FM Direct Adapter with callouts pointing out the various connectors:

looks like you are trying to get from stiletto to your deck.
In that case, use a cassette adapter, never mind trying to pull your GS antenna wire and all that jazz....
the difference between FM modulator and cassette adapter is incredible.
Volume level on FM seems to double intensity when a cassette adapter is used.
best part is that there's no need to get into the dash or behind the radio, dig?

But you have that wire sticking out of the tape deck, I'm trying to get a starmate installed into my ashtray to have everything concealed for a nice clean look. Have you actually listened to Sirius using the direct FM Adapter? Previously I had was using the FM Transmitter builtin the starmate and it was pretty good, I'm thinking that the FM Direct Adapter is going to sound alot better wireless, and thats definitely good enuf for most...unless you are an audiophile.
Edit: On Sirius website, from worst to best: Comparison
