Default Navigation Override for GS350

Does anyone know how to work the navigation override? I've searched prior posts and they said to use the menu function-volume-top left-bot left-top left-bot left and the service menu suppose to appear.

For some reason its not working for me. I believe I have the generation 5 navi. Anyone with the Gen 5 navi can shed some light on this situation or maybe know of a different way for the override?

Thanks.

the only way its possible now is if you disconnect the white wire, you can install a switch to connect it when you wish. I havn't done the mod, and it really doesn't bother me too much to dial from my phone. I rarely use NAV anyways, one reason i got it was when i sell it, people are going to want NAV. Whats the point in paying so much and not getting it right?

Thanks AudiMan...are you saying there is no other alternative but to cut the wire? I was hoping I don't have to do any surgery to the Navi...i'm not much of an electrician.

If you're going to sell in within a couple of years, its true. But, in 7-8 years this NAV will be too outdated with its technology since every year they come up with something new. Plus, you need to pay $200-$300 every couple of years for DVD upgrades to keep map database up to date. I actually think that a really cool factor here is that in non-NAV/ML system (what I got) you still get a touch screen premium audio with all the stereo/climate/BT/phonebook/satellite controls. So far, everyone who seen my car right away tells me "cool, you got NAV" because they see LCD screen. Eventually, I will get one of those $400 portable NAV units if I have a need for it...

I think the best of all worlds would be to have the factory touchscreen, but be able to install the streetdeck system (http://www.streetdeck.com/) driving it, for navigation and other entertainment functions. Screw the factory locking - make it do what you want it do!

I am pretty sure you could retrofit such a system so the display works, but I doubt you could get the touchscreen to be recognized by streetdeck, which is a pity.

Thanks,
Mike

I guess at this point there really isn't any way to override the navi for the new GS350 w/o cutting wires?

Actually there is a way to get the nav override without wire cutting, but it involves burning a new hybrid DVD for the nav that replaces the v6.1 LOADING.KWI file with the v5.1 LOADING.KWI file found in the 5.1v firmware. This would require getting your hands on the older 5.1v DVD. See the thread Tips, Tricks, DIY's, & How-To's. On page 9 of that thread the initial investigation into how to accomplish this is discussed and in subsequent pages how it was accomplished and that it works. Again, in order to accomplish this you will need both the 5.1v and 6.1v DVD's.

Hope this helps.
