Default Bluetooth with GS350

New GS350 will arrive near 1st of the year. I currectly have SprintPCS as cellular service. What new phone do I need to take advantage of the electronics in the GS 350?

I am not opposed to switching cellular carriers.

Lexus is very slow to add phone compatibility on their site. (There are many new (or not so new) bluetooth phones that are not listed)

I had trouple with my SprintPCS Samsung A900 phone but my new Katana phone seems to work much better. I can download phone entry (abet one at a time) and the connections are solid with the car. I have also heard that certain versions of the Treo work and others don't.

I've got Sprint service with the Treo 700p and it works great. I haven't downloaded my phone book yet, but I sure love how I can hop in my GS and not have to touch a thing on my phone and the GS know's the phone is present so all incoming calls immediately ring over the internal audio system. Very cool considering my previous rides never had this.

I have used the following phones in my GS without issues;

Razr V3
Razr V3i
Cingular 8125
Blackberry 8700C
Nokia E62

The only limitation with all of the phones above is that the phone book does not transfer. I believe you can do one contact at a time but what's the point. The one thing I can say is that the Lexus bluetooth system has a completely separate phone book which is good and bad at the same time. The bad part is the issue above with the phone book transfer. The good part is that if you enter all of your important contacts or at least the one's that you will need in the car, you won't need to transfer the phone book. They are in there regardless of what phone you are using.

All of the above phones connect automatically and seamlessly. I have read that some of the Sony Ericsson phones allow complete phone book transfers.

I have an unlocked Sony Ericsson w810i and had zero issues transferring my entire phonebook in 1 shot (about 100 contacts) and the handsfree works like a charm.

That's what I have heard about Sony Ericsson phones. They have a separate menu command for transferring their phone book and I don't believe there are any other phones with that feature. Some have resorted to putting all of their numbers on their SIM card and buying a cheap Sony Ericsson on ebay for the sole purpose of transferring their numbers.

I just manually entered a few key numbers into the speed dial / one-touch buttons for quick access. I gave up on the phone book transfer feature... very few phones will actually work with this mechanism the way Lexus designed it. The bluetooth works quite well in my 2007... not so good in the 2006 I have driven.... but works nonetheless. So I just dial via the phone when I need a # not in my one-touch buttons.... no bid deal. I have used several GSM BT phones with the 06/07 GS and they link up fine: iMate JAMin (HTC Prophet), HTC Artemis, Eten x500 and HP 6915.

My experience, fwiw.....

Note that your carrier can choose to disable certain features. Verizon as an example is known to cripple their phones. I have Cingular as a carrier, but explicitly chose to get my SE W810i unlocked so that I would not have to be subject to Cingular's limitations or adaptations.

Now that's an interesting idea...if I could find a cheap Sony Ericsson phone that connects to a PC it get numbers I'd pick one up off eBay to transfer my 500+ phone numbers. Guess I'll start to research that path.
