450h maintenance?
i'm wondering what the differences are in maintenance of the 450h compared with the regualar 350/430? oil change every 5,000 miles? can the DIY'er do the job? for you hybrid owners that take it to the dealer for maint., how much is it costing you?

You can change the oil yourself and all that...I took my prius in to a place to change the oil for about 12 bucks. I believe it is much cheaper than longo toyota which was about 25 bucks for an oil change. I would suggest however that the brakes be done by toyota or lexus but maybe regular shops should know how to change them too...but they are regenerative brakes so I think they don't use the same braking pads as regular cars do. Hope this information helps.

$12????
Thats stupid cheap! I would really wonder if they did
change the oil or not. The cost of 5 quarts of oil and
and new filter is more then $12 and that doesnt even
include the guy's labor.
$1.59 a quart * 5 = $7.95
$5.99 for filter *1 = $5.99
subtotal (w/ tax) = $14.64
Takes about 20 minutes, and at a CHEAP $20 per
hour shop rate thats another $6.67 worth of labor.
So an oil change for $21.31 is about as low as I
would go. Simple math. Having a coupon will
change this price, but you cant count on one every
time you do it.

My first 2000 mile check was free, I told them I wanted my 2nd for free as well, they said ok.
They put in a fully synthetic, which I agreed was ok with the brand they use, but I will from now on, bring in my molile 1, and have they just change it.
They said they would always just do the change for free if I brought in oil, just charge me for the filter and disposal.
I was quoted a price of a couple hundred for the scheduled 2nd I believe.

A couple hundred for an oil change?!?!? You gotta be kidding I know our local Toyota place that takes care of our Highlander charges $32 and will do the same for my Lexus. While my dealer has a price of $120 but most of the time they have $52 specials. For extra $20 (comparing to Toyota charge) you get a white glove service (at Toyota they don't care if they scratch your car), a nice lounge with comfy leather chairs/couch and PC w/internet, top deli food selection (dozen of sandwiches, 5-6 soda types, salads, sweets, etc.) and a free car wash (that one actually I get every weekend, they give you lifetime free carwash). Of course, the first 5k service is free, but afterwards I'm only going to my dealer.

The whatever they do is the area of concern. After two oil change screw ups, I’m doing it myself. Oh, you might want to check your rims to see if they chipped the finish on the rotation. Other than a smile and handing you a coke, I’m not impressed with the dealer I went to. Going to anther and hopefully they take a little more care in their work.
Don’t think because you pay more you are getting better service. Besides, at that price you are paying for that loaner and coke.
