Default Rattle update! Need some advice from you guys!

Well, in case you didn't read my original post regarding this issue, I had the dreaded right top dash rattle that so many have described. I took my GS in on Thurs and printed them a copy of the TSIB. They didn't sound too helpful and basically stated that they haven't seen this problem and basically tried to tell me it was normal and due to the car being too quiet. The service manager test drove the car with me and walked away saying that it was definitely there and he would take care of it. My paperwork clearly states, rattle was repaired per TSIB. It is 90% better and not as loud but it's more frequent. My wife doesn't notice it but I definitely do. Still, I can live with it the way it is.

Just out of curiosity, to see if there was anything more I could do, I just took the cowl apart. As I was taking it apart, I noticed that the dust on the engine covers was intact and they basically looked like they were untouched since the car left the factory. After getting all of it apart, I checked the pins and sure enough they are still there. They did not perform the repairs per TSIB!

I will post pics below but now the question is what should I do? Confront them? They flat out lied and it's documented on paper. They also must have billed Lexus for it because it's on my ticket. It's 90% better but more frequent and I would prefer that it was eliminated completely. Also, I would like to know exactly what they did so it might help you guys to have your dealership do the same thing. I get the feeling they stuffed some foam in the lower windshield area or something. The only reason why I would not confront them is because I have 2 Lexus' that will eventually need servicing whether it's routine or due to a problem, I still need to go there. The nearest one besides this dealership is 1.5 hrs away.

Here is the TSIB

absolutly nothing wrong with confronting them. Maybe the tech, did this, and it is in no relation to the maint. I would go to the floor manager for service and speak with him directly. I would also let them know that is bs to say something that is a flat out lie, and ask why this was said. I don't put up with that for one second. They work for me, I'd be on their *** to do their job correctly!

Talk to the service manager. If you see the slight bit of “trying to cover it up” go to the general manager. It could be the worker and not the whole gang. Depending on what response you get, I would let Lexus know. If it is on the invoice, they billed Lexus and seems like fraud to me. They did something to my car because they damaged it. Thanks for the pictures. Do you have any other pictures? I’m trying to see how bad they screwed up my car.

Oh, did you drive it without the cowl? any difference?

2th,

While you had the cowl out, did you take it for a test drive? Was the noise the same or different?

I also wonder if they did the other part of the TSIB, where they cut the clips from inside the car--under the headliner.

I second GS2006's recommendation on how to handle this. That is the way to go.

I agree! Confront and get them to pay for your next couple of service visits ;-)

How would a plastic piece that does not move around make noise in the car? I am referring to the windshield clips?

ohhhh. I have to check this.

I had this supposedly done a few years ago, but I've always suspected they didn't actually do it.
