Calling all 'cold weather' GS300 AWD owners
I purchased a 2006 GS300 AWD in mid-August. I loved it! Totally!
Until October, and with less than 2500 miles on the car, the "check engine" and "check VSC" lights started lighting. I was told that my engine was running too lean. They made an adjustement and sent me on my way. The next time - 3 weeks later, they said I was running to rich and that I shouldn't let my car "warm up" or let it idle too long. Now, 6 trips later for the same light show, I'm told that this is happening to all GS300 AWD's owned in cold-weather states and that I don't drive enough miles. Should they have disclosed the fact that driving 30+ miles a day at speeds of 50 mph or more isn't enough? Is anyone else experiencing this problem and living in a "cold weather" state? I see our dealership is still selling these cars to other unsuspecting buyers. If this is truly such a universal issue - how can that be?

Thanks for sharing that thread - - this is ridiculous! Can't drive an average of 200 miles a week (mostly highway!). From the thread, it doesn't just appear to be cold-weather states which is the latest excuse. Do you know how I can see some of the TSBs you referenced? I think I'm getting the run-around. Each time they "fix" my car -- they put about 120 miles on it and turn the light off -- some fix. They are driving the mileage on my car up and the value of my car down.

Although my check engine light hasn't come on yet, I checked my engine oil recently and there's a strong gas smell mixed with the oil which I've never experienced before with any other car. So although my car seems to run fine (although I'd like to see better city gas mileage than 16-17mpg), I'm now wondering if there will be problems down the road. Nothing like a little doubt after throwing down $50k+ on a new car that should run fine no matter how much I drive it each day.
Part of me just can't believe this is true, and the other part of me is reading these threads with real people experiencing real problems and dealers giving them no good answers, and I'm just amazed.

I believe I have the same detuned engine as the v6 GS, so let me interject and say no problems or odd smells here.
No smoke at startup or at anytime the engine is engaged.

I have an 06 AWD and I work at home, so it gets driven 2-3 days/week being that it's winter to the post office (2mi), grocery store(3mi) and out and about on the weekends.. and its been in the teens and single digits for a couple weeks now.. no lights here.. i do keep my garage at least 40 degrees and drive it hard when i drive, but not sure if that has anything to do with it..

Thanks for the info
Thanks for all the info. The variety in experiences seems to fit with what my dealership is telling me. It's not every car but is happening on the GS and IS models - both 2006 & 2007. I've even confirmed this with the Lexus Central Area Office. Because of the problems and the lemon laws, an option is the swap vehicles, but they won't let me swap for another GS until Lexus has a fix in place. I'm concerned about unknown potential for engine damage that might not show up until well down the road. Some of your stories give me hope that mine is just truly a lemon and with a swap these nightmares will be over. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there was a free site with a list of every latest Lexus TSB, but they just went "private" and require an account to login. If anybody know of another source, I would like to find out as well. Dealerships are not too open about TSB details...

Try this.. However, they have not updated their site since 12/06. It used to be that you can get those info from www.alldata.com. They are now a subscription service.
