Default satellite install with M/L - photos pls

Hey Guys - I'm looking for the thread that details the steps of the XM installation w/photos in a 3G GS with M/L. Someone was actually kind enough to take actual photos as they went along.

Sorry to start a new thread requesting this, because I'm sure the thread is here somewhere, however after 1hr of repeated searching, I've failed to track it down.

Anyone who's been here longer than me, do you know where to find it? Very much appreciated.

I just did this install this week but did not take any pics. The instructions
are good that come with the kit. Just take a look at the instructions first
to see if you can understand them before you get started. Here is the
link http://www.lexus-parts.com/partdetai...bCategoryID=99
Also be careful not break the panel pins make sure you have a panel removal
tool.

Sadly, this being a $40K-$60K Lexus and not a $20K Honda, you will find a lot less DIY and hacking information on this board than places like acurazine.com or odyclub.com that I used to frequent. I can't imagine a navigation system override not being available for several months, if it were on an Acura TSX or TL. Yet, it's been a number of months since navigation v6.1 has come out, and we still don't have any solution. Just venting...

There is a nav over-ride. Several people on this board have done it without issues on v6.1

There is a NAV override that would allow the 6.1 system to be programmed while driving? I thought the wire-cutting hack was only for the Bluetooth and DVD playing (don't care too much about either feature) and there was no way to fool the Navi into not locking out touch-screen programming while driving. That's supposedly because the Navi lockout is based on the GPS' own speed sensing independent of the speedo. Am I wrong?

First, thanks for the reply Firstlps.

The photos I recall, that person had installed the XM Tuner inside the right rear fender just behind the , sort of up-and-to-the-right of the M/L Amp.
But dangit if I can find that thread now though.

I'll keep hunting...

Yes, the DVD/NAV hack actually accomplishes several things.

1. Allows viewing of DVDs while in motion
2. Removes lockouts on the telephone screen while in motion
3. Allows nav system entry while in motion

If you don't care about DVD viewing or bluetooth lockout removal, I would suggest that you make yourself a hybrid v5.1/v6/1 nav disc so you can unlock the nav system for use while you are driving. The benefit is that you won't need to cut anything but the drawback is that you will have to touch a sequence of buttons on the touchscreen everytime you want to unlock the nav system.

the less wires to cut the better (in my mind) I've cut many but all good none the less.

The touch screen hack, takes about 10 seconds.... no problem to do every time you want that feature enabled. You can even do it as youare driving...

roddy dawg-

do you have the sharkfin? If so, it is the XM's antenna so no need to route inside. All you have to do is plug in the link from XM kit which is mounted hanging from top of trunk - about 2" in from trunk lid edge. If no sharkfin, you should place it outside the vehicle for best reception, but you can just place it on the rear deck. All you have to do then is run the wire inside from the trunk. Take a moment and read the install instructions, it shows you where the kit is mounted, etc. Here's the link to the instructions:

http://www.sewellparts.net/gs350xm7.pdf

and the parts options:
http://www.lexus-parts.com/partlist....37&ModelID=177

use your CL discount code of CL911M to get 10% off when ordering from Sewell.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but what tool in particular are you referring to?

It's tool designed to remove those plastic pins in the panels. I did not have
one so I used a screw driver and a pair of pliers after mutilating a few pins
my friend made me one from a thin piece of metal. It looks like a nail puller.
