Default Finally did the LED trunklight hack

Talk about a world of difference! It's so bright in there that I turned off the regular trunk light because it didn't make a difference whether it was on or off. I decided not to mess with putting an LED replacement bulb inside the factory trunk light or trying to add an identical factory light on the other side. Instead I installed 4 LED arrays under the trunk deck so it accomplishes the same thing but in a much easier way. All of the lights turn on and off automatically with the trunk, it took me about 15 minutes and I couldn't be happier with the result!

Here are some pics showing all of the lights. They are very bright and it's muuuuuuuch brighter than it looks in the shots. I used my POS P&S because I didn't feel like going in and getting the big boy (1Ds Mark II) for a long exposure.

Looks great! Any pic of the LED prior to installation? Where did you get them?

nice robert, nice!
I have all the parts, but with work and my current mod I am working on, I have yet to do the trunk. Hopefully soon.

If you're gonna start throwing around big camera models, just use the damn camera. Thats like seeing a bumper sticker, "my other is the lambo".
lol

Gotcha Those that are familiar with it will know that it weighs a ton and that's reason enough to hinder casual use. Here are my 2 bumper stickers.

lol. I have the XTi. So I'm familar with some camera models. Waiting on my 70-300 4/L lens.
yes, its heavy. (meant yours, mine is light) I was just ribbing you thats all.

I want to add those lights in my trunk too. But i'm to lazy to buy everything and put them in at this moment. Looks great tho.

I love the XTi, I bought one for my wife and have to say that it's hard to tell whether a shot came from the XTi or my 1Ds. Tremendous bang for your buck! I have a 70-200 f/2.8L IS and 100-400 L IS that I use with the 1Ds and I kid you not, it's like weight lifting! The trunk mod is quick and easy and disassembling the underside of the rear deck only takes a minute. When you are ready, PM me for details.

No kidding! Try to carry a 20D and 2.8L lens and a 580 flash all together. Past summer, I went hiking with friend (northern pa area). In my camera backpack, i have 20D, 2.8L lens, 100 macro, 580 flash, and Glitzo tripod. Boy.. it was a good workout! My wife has an Xti and she loves it. It's definitely lighter than my 20D

Nice job on the install. I'll probably get to the installation during summer time.

Here is another shot that gives a better view of the actual lights.

Definitely bigger than the hybrid's trunk but you get to say wow when you stomp on the gas pedal!

A little over 6 lbs + the weight of the Really Right Stuff L plate.
