I also don't think anything of what you said went over my head, you were just wrong on many points and I corrected you on it. I'm sorry if this upset you.

Alas, I can point to any site and find lots of threads with specific issues and TSBs (rattles in the GS anyone?) - these issues do not affect the majority of the cars and are in fact a very small percentage of owners. To use one of these as a reason to not buy a car is just silly.
The GS(at least the 430 in my garage) runs on the same tires, and the tires are trash, they cause a bumpy ride.

There is NO AWD twin turbo. This is March 2007, not 2008 and it doesn't exist. And if it does come out soon then good luck getting a discount on one of the first ones.
Euro delivery?? Fly to Europe, pick up a car and drive it to the port for shipping, then fly back home! I live in USA. I got $5,461 off my Lexus from my local dealer with one email and a phone call. And I picked it up on my way home from work one night.
I-Drive is a POS as determined by every credible automotive journalist on the planet!
And dont even try and tell me about turbos, I'm 45 and have owned many of them, but "virtually no lag" isn't the same as NO lag.
Test drive an AWD 335i?? I can't test drive a car that DOESNT EXIST!
-335xi is comming very soon(spring 07).
- I would love to fly to europe and pick up the car and drive on the autobahn, Best.Buying.Experince.Ever!
BMW even gives you flight tickets, and you just drop the car off at the many drop of locations you dont drive to the port. (Please just google E.D you will get lots of info)
-If the iDrive is a POS,why is Benz, Audi and Infiniti copying the iDrive ****?
Only a matter of time before lexus has something similer.(BMW made it simpler now so u have programmable buttons, so not EVERYTHING is controlled by iDrive.)
-And yes there really is NO LAG on the turbo.
Test drive it, words cant describe it.
I ment test drive the RWD 335i, if u want AWD just wait a few weeks.

The 2008 5-series are being built right now as is the awd 335 - you can buy one at the end of the month if you like.

It is true, there is a LOT more profit in a Lexus vehicle - thus the bigger discounts.

While the "credible" journalists do not like I-Drive, they are the same people who say the 335 has vitrually no turbo lag. DRIVE ONE!

I've had touch screen in my GS430 and I-Drive in my 550 - the I-Drive is superior IMHO. If the "credible" journalists would use it for over a week they would see. Now if they could only make it faster....

I am with you about the European experience. However, I'd like to make a small correction to your statement about "BMW even gives you flight tickets, and you just drop the car off at the many drop of locations you dont drive to the port. (Please just google E.D you will get lots of info)".

BMW does NOT give anyone flight tickets! You can purchase your tickets through Luftansa and get a discount on the second ticket as part of your European Delivery Program (ED): www.bimmerfest.com

If you want free flight tickets, check out Volvo's European delivery program.

Maybe it was just for a limited time, when I did ED last year.
But now you can get second ticket free.

I would love a touch screen if it worked while driving.

I would rather have a controller if it meant I could use all the car's features while driving.

Talk about a frickin compromise.

"We're not as thrilled about some other options on our test car, specifically the overly helpful active steering, which is a stain on one of the 3-series finest attributes, and the always annoying iDrive, which comes with navigation."

The active steering is the thing I posted links to before, issues with 5 series wearing out tires quickly (8000 miles), weather runflat of not, and costing $280 to align (gasp!). Only to have the problem reoccur 8000 miles later with standard tires (Non-runflat). All this with the optional active uber-steering.

But doug666 says you must spend time with BMW to get used to the iDrive... WELL then I read this:

AUTOMOBILE magazine April 2007 Page 115:

"BMW 330i Did engine problems damp our enthusiasm for the 2006 Automobile of the year? ... the 3.0 liter in-line six in our four seasons BMW 330i suffered a major mechanical failure.
This isn't the first time one of our four seasons BMWs has been plagued by problems under the hood.
- Our 1994 540i needed a new V-8 after only 30,000 miles when it lost compression in 2 cylinders.
- Our 2001 M3 went through two throttle valve actuators and a throttle position sensor and suffered from valve chatter.
- Our 2003 745Li visited the service bay for the first time at only 1700 miles when the lift mechanism of its valvetronic variable-valve-timing system had to be adjusted...
... problem with our 2006 330i was valve ticking at cold idle. Before long there was a constant valve noise throughout the rev range at all operating temps. BMW diagnosed worn camshafts, lifters and rocker arms..... car off the road 5 weeks..... $4300 warranty repair..."

I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT A LEXUS!!!!!

We are such an **** retentive group here that we complain about little squeaks and rattles. LOL

And as far as AWD twin turbo BMWs available at my local dealer in 3 weeks??? Never gonna happen, and when they do show up the first ones are all spoken for. And who needs a winter car in the spring? I bought a new Lexus in December so I could use it this winter.

Profit in Lexus vehicles? Buddy the Germans have the highest paid workforce (thanks to socialism) their cars are overpriced and less reliable.
The same rag find issues with all the cars they test. I am sure they would run across the Lexus oil leaks, rattles, engine dieseling, a tranny issues. Don't kid yourself. Articles are written in most part due to bias and advertising dollars.

I was talking with some of the Lexus zone guys yesterday at school and they said I-drive is coming very soon for Lexus and as you expected they hate the idea of that whole system.

@ Servertech
seesh, well im not gonna try and remove the hatred you have against german cars.

Too each his own, I guess.
Personally I think BMW and Lexus are currently the two best premium car companies. Each have their own special thing. Lexus=Luxury, BMW=Handling.

I am not a big fan of Benz, their new models are ZZzzzz. Audi even more so.
I cant tell the difference between an A8 and A6 from the front.

Yeah, but now they have the R8 to do battle with Porsche and Lambo and it's in production!

BTW - Our 1971 Lexus which finally left our family this past Friday ran without problems on Mobile 1 and extended 12,000 oil changes.

Our 04 3 Series BMW has given us zip problems and due to BMW free maintenance has cost us $0.00 to maintain by the book!

Our new Lexus GS350 came home on Thursday. Miss the reasuring steering feel of a BMW as well as the perfectly linear response of their brake pedal. Also, I wish that Lexus had a maintenance program similar to BMW. Other than that, we think this Lexus is going to be a very enjoyable "family" vehicle.

ok, exactly how is the I-Drive related to those failures? Or is it like the turbos not getting enough cooling cause you can't see them

Oh BTW, no worries my friend, you can't get Active Steering on the AWD BMWs - so you won't have to worry about expensive alignments (even though all service is included on BMWs).

edit: only the 430 has active steering not the V6 models

Yea, BMW removied the Active steering from the sports pkg.
So now its optional.
