Default Daytime Running Lights Clarification

I've sifted through many posts on the Daytime Running Lights and it seems to me to be a little confusion amongst some....Or my eyes are playing tricks on me(wouldn't suprise me) or my particular model/version of vehicle's designed differently....I have a 2006 GS300 AWD.

I was under the impression that the DRL's were the HighBeams(bigger bulb in the middle) model 9005's running at half the watts, but seems to me it's not. I replaced the stock 9005's with Xenon hyperWhite's and test drove and notice these lights aren't on at all. The small "Parking Lights"(the tiny bulb above the 9005's) are the ones that run during the day and the 9005's only come on if you put your lights on "High Beam".

I've ordered some super white LED's for the for the parking lights and will give updates on how it turns out.

The reason i want to replace the DRL's because i want a cleaner crisp look, by having the Crystal White Color....dont like the yellow.

That's weird. My GS 350 uses the 9005 half power for the DRL's. The wedge parking lights only come on when the main HID kicks in. I replaced mine with a 5 LED cluster (modified to stick out further into the headlight case).
I really don't like the yellow appearance of the DRL either. In fact the bulb itself is turning yellow. I have heard of some LED based 9005's and I am waiting for a report on how they perform at half power & how bright they get.

Is your light turned on? I don't have a 3GS but if it worked like the 2GS, the headlight switch sequence is Off (DRL on)/Parking(DRL off)/Full on(DRL off)/Auto. If it is on the first click, you will see the wedge bulb on with the high beams (1/2 power) off.

As for color, at 1/2 power, the HyperWhites probably won't be as white as you'd like.

Well, I feel a little dumb now because I checked when my car's parked and the light's switched to AUTO and the engine's on.....that's when i thought the DRL's should turn on...hence "parking lights".

When you switch gears to Drive does the lights change?

How do you check the DRL's when the car's not in motion or is there not a way to do so?

Put it in gear so they come on and back in Park. I think that should do it.
