It's not just a Lexus problem, the front of my 04 Z06 looks like it has been sandblasted.
I had 2 chips in the hood of my GS within a few days after taking delivery. It's not something I want to constantly worry about, so I had the Clear Bra installed.

Ive heard , and experienced that new paint will chip easier, even though its gone through the bake process, its still got chemicals which have not yet evaporated and fully hardened and cured the paint

it does chip easily. I 3M'd it so I am protected there, but I have one on the roof, the first 1mm of the roof from the front, where it is still sloping.....
Oh well. I just touched it up with the little paint brush/btl they provided as the color match. It's ok. Only I notice it now.

Mel, that peeling paint you noticed is from someone lifting your wipers. Wipers have two positions, by default a normal where you can't really see them from inside. And than, there is "winter" position where you can hold on to the passenger side wiper and slide it a little bit up into a higher position. You can ONLY lift your wipers up when they are in that so called "winter" position, or if you have wipers on and stop the car right in the middle. I got exactly the same thing on my Silver, its a spot on the edge of the hood right across from driver side wiper. You could of lifted it up by mistake while cleaning the snow off, or sometimes those idiots put fliers under your windshield so someone else might of lifted it up. Go to your dealership and either ask for or buy (it cost about $6) a touch up paint. Apply a coat of it with a little brush that comes inside. Let it dry for a week, and apply another coat. Just to be sure, do it 3 times and you will be OK!

ive always hated those ppl who put those flyers on ur windshield, where do they get the right 1st to touch your car and 2nd to move your wipers?

On an old jeep of mine, I added (to the existing alarm) I added 12 batteries in the trunk that constantly ran electricity through the metal exterior body of the car, so anytime you touched the car(exterior metal body parts) from the outseid you got shocked.
I did this really as just a (test). I wouldn't recommend it, b.c first of all the liability, but 2nd of all, all somone would need to do to messup your car, when this is activated is apply a cro-bar angled from the gound to the door of the car. THis then contstantly gounds the car, not to mention, add a huge arch/black mark on the door where the bar was touching it.
I did this primarily for an exp. not for true functionality.

But do that to your car, and I bet you don't get any more flyers. Maybe a few shoe marks from the person kicking your car after they got shocked as hard as they could, but at least no more flyers.

Well, Twister, looks like you're right on the money. I stopped by to see a friend at a very reputable auto shop today. Incidentally, he loves my car. He immediately told me it looks like someone moved the wiper and he did a demonstration (without touching the hood). At one point, he was checking to see if the hood had been repainted, because the chip isn't black, it's still silver with a little piece of paint hanging off of it. In a way, when you look at the hood from a certain angle, the paint looks "wavy" (for lack of a tech. term). Here's the problem: I have never touched the wipers on the car, because the car is garage kept and I've never had to remove snow from underneath them. I have never had a flier put under the wiper. Is this something that could have been done prior to my taking delivery? Or did they do this a few weeks ago when they washed the car after putting new tires on? Maybe they thought I needed them up higher. My buddy couldn't believe the chips I have on my car already. I'm really sad about it.

Interesting that I've not had a chipping problem on my 06 GS3 (Black). After 16k miles, the paint is relatively chip-free. But, there are bug splatter stains all across the front part of my hood. I've tried polishing compound (carefully), 3M clearcoat polish, wax, etc., and it doesn't remove the stains. Any ideas? What's in that bug juice anyway?

If you don't have any chip yet, believe me, you will. Esp if you don't have clearbra on your car. On a black car, it will look like someone sand blasted your front end.

If you use wax system, I'll use a clay bar first. Then, follow by a cleaner wax, and then wax for the shine. Or just get a zaino kit and follow direction. Good luck!

Bifore you give up on the dealer, take your car first to a paint a body specialist and have them mic the paint for density. Keep the readings. Then take it to your dealer and ask them to do the same. If the paint was too thin when you got the car, they should have to make it good as part of the warranty. The idea is to get the knowledge you need before you talk to the dealer. Not that your dealer might lead you astray, it's just always a great idea to be armed with all the knowledge you can before confronting them with your problems. I have about 2800 miles on my car in some pretty heavy traffic and I don't have any of the problems you are describing; it could just be your factory paint.

No problems with my paint, but stange, that my rear passenger door has a small paint nick, while my hood (And I'm gonna kill myself for saying this) has no nicks on it. Go figure.

I'm just wondering if the dealership would even honor this, or even attempt to on their part. I am not a very young fellow, although I do look young, and most of the time, they think its my father's car , most of advisors dont even bother listening to me....thanks for the advice, I may go and try this

I thought the service advisors saved that behavior for us "girls." You mean they give guys the brush-off too? I feel terrible about the chips on my car. I can see the one near the wiper while I'm driving. It's like it's taunting me. I've never touched those wipers. The dealership offered over the phone to touch-up the chips. They haven't seen them yet.
