Default Better to go for New or Used?

I been looking around for a GS430 used and started to think for the amount Im going to pay for a used GS430 I might beable to get a new GS350 in about the same range.

I read where people were getting a GS350 between 44000 and 48000 depending on options. A used GS430 is 39,000 to 45,000 depending on options and mileage.

I'll be trading in a GS400 with 120,000 which I owe about 7000 and KBB says its worth between 10,000 and 12,000. I was also going to put down between5-6000 and credit score is 680. Just looking at the best option.

What are your thoughts.

Thanks

Just go with whatever catches you first...finding your perfect color combo in a 350 seems to be kinda difficult recently....low stock and all....if you happen by one with a decent deal grab it....if on the other hand you find a decent 430 that catches your eye go for that....personally I see no benefit in buying a 430 over a 350 other than the smoothness and torque of the V8

I'd pick a new '07 GS350 over a used '06 GS430. Performance is similar and the '07 has the 5th gen nav system.

Go new... Only a few thousand more, and you get to take that baby right off the lot! Unless you find a strikingly great deal on a near new used ( which also could mean trouble ) I'd say go new.
What I would do though if possible, is get your financing done through a 3rd party, such as capital one, which offers better rates btw, and search the dealers in your area asking what color combo's and options they have... If you find something you like... walk in with your check and your trade and negotiate hard... If you have $5-6000 in cash and a check for the difference, it is hard for them to let you walk on a deal that could have been completed on the spot. This, of course, is even sweeter if the car you like is in stock...

Go new! Sounds like you are going to finance. A few thousound more on a note over 5 years at 8.5% doesn't translate into that much of a larger payment. For your FICA, 8.5% should be a good rate. It's about the banks going rate. Work on your FICA, even though you are very close to the National average, over 725 is a great savings.

You can figure your monthly payment will increase about $20.52 for each thousand more you finance at the rate given above; so, say a new GS350 cost you 5,000 more; then, you'll pay about $102.60 more on your monthly payment. On the low end, that's $39,000 plus $5,000 or $44,000 plus your $3,000 trade or $47,000 which should get you in a new GS350 with all options but the ML. Trade hard and your deal could be even better.

If your dealer can't get you into the ride of your choice, send me a message. I didn't go through a dealer for that reason. A dealer turned me on to my seller. The source I used found mine in one day and delivered it in the next 10; from Long Beach, CA straight off the boat and delivered it to my door step in Texas. They even took a trade on my Escalade at blue book; it was in great shape and it too had 119,000 miles on it.

Go new and enjoy the ride.

Default devils advocate...

well, no doubt the new generation NAV in the 350 has superior resolution to the gs430 and probably 4-5 miles more per gallon...that and the shark fin are really the only new thing on the car. performance minus torque power is about the same, suspension in gs430 is slightly more advanced...at least the 07 brochure talks about things the 430 has that the 350 doesn't. I considered both and went with the 06 430 with 7300 miles. this saved me an additional several thousand dollars over the new gs350. So you buy a 60k car with some miles but don't take the 25% hit on the car after the first year b/c someone else already did.

NOW, if you haven't read Cohert's latest rampage about his 3 day old GS 350, you may want to check it out...the title is
"Someone hit my NEW GS350 due to me being on the side of the road messing with the NAV "

Besides the obvious question of why and where he was when that happened, consider he got hit only b/c there is not a simple mod on the 350's navigation to key in destinations while driving. the gs430 is a simple 2 tap process on the touchscreen to be able to key in addresses/ etc while moving. you also don't have to worry about possible void of warranty due to wire cutting, etc

his case is the extreme, but nonetheless you will have frustration when you are locked out while moving...sort of defeats the purpose almost...so this is a devils advocate kind of view but something to consider when looking at all angles of purchasing/comparing cars.
