Opinion of Black Saphire Pearl paint color
Lexus has a new color this year "Black Saphire Pearl" that looks black until the sun hits it and becomes a deep blue metallic... Has anyone else seen this color and what is your opinion...

I think this is the second year of the color, I like it and wish I could get a 2gs with it but you know.
It could be a bit bluer and lass black, but it is still a great color

My wife just bought an IS250 a week ago in that same color and I get to compare it with my GS350 side by side, which is a Starfire Pearl white color. I really like her Black Saphire Pearl color but I just worry if every scratch or swirl mark will show up......especially since she's not the most careful detailer. I like the color a lot especially since it contrasts mine but I still prefer the white color instead.....however, just my opinion. I think it's a great addition to the line-up for Lexus colors. Now they just need a blueish color like the one shown in the IS-F car show pics.

I have my 07 350 AWD in Black Saphire Pearl color, it looks great, everybody get confused between black at night and dark blue during the day. Love the color, however, after 10 car washes via machines with brushes - clear coat all scatched up now, in some spots really bad. I think Lexus has a very soft paint. just got Blitz Wax from Grand One out of California and soon will apply it to see how this color will look after glazing and waxing. I live in New York and for the past 2 weeks the weather here is cold.

Thanks for the opinions... It helped with the purchase of a new GS... The color looks fantastic in the sun (which we haven't seen much lately on the East Coast) but had to concede the interior color to the wife.. I pushed for black but she won on the tan... This scheme seems to be more elegant where as the black interior is sporty.. No matter what color, I can't go wrong...

I've had to polish my GS once every 8 months or so to keep it swirl free. I try waxing every month. Investing in a Porter Cable is worthwhile, will make polishing/waxing so much easier.

- INHOCJP - thanks for the comment, yes, I was thinking to get Porter Cable and try to see how will it fix all swirls and scratches, by the way which wax and glaze are you using? It looks like GS lovers in Cali alot more crazier to keep thier cars clean and shine then we are here on East coast, u got better worm weather there...

As for me, I'm not a hardcore detailer and just want to keep it simple. I use Meguiars products for polishing and follow-up with Zaino. Here's a pretty informative link from Meguiars about how to use the PC.

JD,
Have your same car Black Sapphire with Cashmere interior. '07 GS350 NAV/ML Spiders. I just love it. Gets a lot of looks. Little hard to keep clean, but I seem to find the time to do it. Someday I will have to post some picks. I really like when the sun hits it and the pearl/metallic blue comes out.
Anyway, enjoy the car. I am.

To me, the Black Saphire Pearl is just too black.
Honestly, I am a little disappointed that out of 10 or so color choices on Lexus cars, three of them tend to be black. There's the black black, the gray black, the blue black and sometimes a red or green black.
I guess I am still miffed at them for dumping Spectra Blue Mica for Blue Onyx Pearl back in 2001 (another blue black) so please don't take me too seriously. I'm sure that I'll get over it - eventually...
BTW, the recent survey on IS-F colors showed that the favorite was a true blue - Ultrasonic blue. For those of us who prefer something other than really dark colors, Ultrasonic blue is nice change I just hope they make more than 50 cars with the color and offer it on the GS.
