Wronglane,

To do zaino properly, you need to dawn wash the car first to strip off any previous wax on it. Claybar it and wash it again. Then, apply Z5 and Z2, as many coats as you want. Here's the link http://www.zainostore.com/

And, Sal from Zaino will tell you that you should end with Z2 because of its higher optic.

Thanks Greatsmile,is it worth having done and how much would it cost to have done professionally? I have a guy that comes to my house to detail my car.Maybe I will have him do it.

It's not hard to do zaino. If you have a guy comes to detail your car, you can ask him to do it for you. You probably have to buy the kit and just have him apply it on your car. I'd just get the entire kit (~$90). Good luck!

See www.zainostore.com ... Zaino is the name given to a package of car care products... named after Sal Zaino, the maker. Z-5 is one of the products used to get the shine you see. When you get to their web site you will get a lot more information about the product. Do a web search for Zaino, their is much information on the web. I have a couple of coats of clear coat on my car. It gives me plenty of depth to polish when removing normal road hazards that occur to the surface.

The process you are seeing consists of the following:

Washed the car with Dawn original blue dishwashing detergent.

Washed again with Zaino's Z-7 car wash.

Skipped the clay bar this time.

Dried car with 100% cotton towels.

Used leaf blower to remove water from around lights etc.

Applied Zaino's Z-8 speed detail.

Applied thin coat of Zaino Z-5 with ZFX and let dry. It took about 1 hour to dry due cold weather.

Buffed off haze with 100% cotton towel and let cure for 1 hour.
(The weather was very cold the night I applied the Z-5)

Applied Zaino Z-8 Speed Detail again to clean surface.

Applied another very thin coat of Zaino Z-5 with ZFX (about 2 measured lines with three drops of ZFX - they supply the tool for measuring and the mixing bottles).

I left this coat on for about 8 hours and buffed it off the next morning.

Then I applied another coat of Zaino Z-8 Speed Detail.

The result is the mirror finish you see.

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks for the info Greatsmile and GS350BLACK. Is this something you would do 2 or 3 times a year? Would it hurt the cars finish if done too often?

No. It want' hurt the cars finish to do it more often. The entire process as explained on Zaino's site is not necessary every time you wash. Two to three times a year is probably sufficient. I am going to apply a few another coat of Z-5 and then several coats of Z-2 over the next couple of weeks after the conversation I had with Sal Zaino a couple of weeks ago.

Zaino is great for everyday cars but if you want the ultimate shine it is still Carnuaba wax. I have used zaino and compared to high quality Carnuaba wax it still is not as wet or shiny, but it lasts about 1-2 months longer in Canada's weather. Not sure how much longer zaino lasts if you live in the southern states.

Thanks for the warning - we'll get the plastic seat covers ready for you

White GS was mine and Red was Firstlps'. You have got to see a matador red in person - it is phenomenal.

You'll be welcome in Texas Bozer... I think?

Believe me, both the white and the Mica Red are just as stunning in person.

Both the Starfire Pearl and the Mica Red were phenomenal in person. If I had to choose a different color, I'd have to buy two cars; one while one red.

Wax.... No way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The heat melts it away while trapping contaminants.... If it works for you, that's great.

Too funny! There seems to be many good solutions on the market for getting that mirrow finished wet looking shine. Zaino is just one of them; but a darn good one! Having not used it before, I was very surprised at the results. Waxes offer a solution; but in our climate, I don't think it's a good one for me. The heat seems to melt the wax away in a very short period of time.
