If some dealers are machining or replacing the rotors they may very well be absorbing that themselves or possibly goodwilling the expense as it doesn't look like Lexus is taking care of that under the normal warranty claims procedure.
You are correct. Lexus does not authorize machining the rotors, so if your dealership does that with the TSIB, it is doing so as a good-will measure.

You can probably just go in and complain about the excessive brake dust and show them the TSIB for 07 and see if they'd do it on your 08 or not.

the dust is just as bad as the bmw, but thank god the stock rims are gun metal in colors, so it's not THAT bad.

there is no perfect pads out there, high performance and low dust, but seems like people are happy with the TSIB, perhaps I will try it on the 08.

if you think this is bad, get a brembo BBK with brembo pads, now that's dust.

Am I the only one who doesn't want an increase in stopping distance. I will not upgrade the pads for fear of the decrease in performance. I don't care how much dust I get on the wheels, a noticeable increase in stopping distance is not worth little dust on the wheels.

I noticed zero difference in stopping distance. That isn't to say that if you took both examples to the track and tested them, the dusty pads would not outperform. But for the way I drive, it is not noticeable.

Driving defensively is your best bet. Not tailgating, not speeding in urban areas etc. etc.

I have not noticed a decrease in stopping performance with the updated pads. I don't see why Lexus should keep offering this as a TSIB and make it a permanent solution to a "dirty" issue.

You are not the only one. Me, my brother, and my dad have almost rear-ended someone with the "up-graded" brakes in my GS430. I took the vehicle back, and Lexus replaced my pads again to the supposed stock pads (high-friction) although the part number differs at the last digit from the high friction pads. This is supposedly the new design. Apparently they have pads for low dust, and non-squeal. Unfortunately, I don't think they were the correct ones, because it doesn't stop as well as it used to from the factory, and it definitely doesn't have that "initial bite". I will most likely pay for another brake job in the near future. Until then, none of us drive the car as much. I may be the only person that feels this way about the braking, but I noticed a huge difference. If there is another Dallas GS430 owner that would like to compare their brakes and mine, I'd be happy to show you.

I requested pads be replaced at 5000 mile check-up on my '07 GS350, about 2 weeks ago. I was told there had been another update on the pad TSIB, and pads were on order. About a week later took the GS350 back for the pad replacement. Got a call an hour before I was to pick up the car and was told by the service manager they needed to fix the roters too. Not sure exactly what they did. They kept the car for one night. I kept the loaner. Picked GS350 up the next day. I appreciate not having excessive break dust anymore. The wheels stay so much cleaner. I have not notice any change in the braking. Glad I had it done. Anyone else been told there was an issue with the roters at the time of the brake pad TSIB on their GS350?

Previous versions of this TSIB should be discarded.

Introduction: Some Lexus vehicles are equipped with high-friction front brake pads, specifically designed for superior braking performance and response. As a result, under certain conditions, it is possible for the customer to experience a larger volume of brake dust on the wheels. For customers who find these characteristics objectionable, an alternative brake pad material has been developed. As with any change made to brake pad material, braking performance and feeling may be altered and could possibly be reduced under certain driving conditions as a result of their usage. These alternative front brake pads have now been made available as service parts.

Applicable Vehicles:
2006 -- 2007 model year GS 430 and IS 250/350 vehicles.
2007 model year GS 350/450h vehicles.

Flipside, do you know if the older pads can be ordered by the customer, and if they are even available for sale? I want the high friction pads again. The information you gave below is exactly the part number the parts guy told me. I'm assuming they did two brake jobs with the exact same pads.

I don't see why not. If they're still being put on the production models, you should be able to order them.

Gator i went to the dealership to disable the DRL, LPS and also complaint about the brake dust issues. No questions asked and they will replace it under the TSIB, but they couldnt change the brake pads on the same day because they were extremely busy on that day. My service advisor took me to their appointment dept. and setup a date for me to go back and have the pads replace. I'm going back in two weeks
