"Sometimes".

I use it mainly for deacceleration, and to save my stock break pads from dusting up my nice wheels es[ecially after a new wash. Mainly while breaking is when I go from 6-5-4-3....

I'm with Jace7 in my use. I drop it down a few gears on the freeway to slow down instead of using the brakes (don't want the cops to know I was speeding ;-))

I do use it when driving around town more to slow down and for better responsiveness when accelerating, keeps the revs higher and holds the gear. My spousal unit never uses it which is why she always gets better mileage then I do

I only use it when going down a steep hill and I don't want to ride the brakes or when I'm on a road with hairpin curves and want to downshift without braking hard through the curves. Oh, and of course when someone thinks their car is faster (usually not with my wife in the car).

So does usage like you guys mentioned put more ware on the tranny causing shorter life or is it built for it and can handle that kind of use or even everyday usage?

I'm sur eit is fine and can handle it. How long are you planning on keeping your car? 20 years?
I keep mine for 3-7. you shouldn't have a problem even long after that.

I use mine rarely - just if need that extra bit of speed if I need to change lanes at the last minute.

I tend to keep my cars til they 'die' and unlike other responders, would not use it to slow down. I'd rather put extra load on my brakes (which are easy/cheap) to replace than to put extra stress on the tranny and engine.

Be nice if it lasts 20 years. hehe J/K But what I am really looking at is any problems once the warranty is over.

In the owner's manual about the tiptronics, it reads "Al-Shift", and stated that you could shift gear 2 or 3 (coresponing with the speed?) instead whenever putting on the tiptronic mode at gear 4. It could be set, but does any one know how? or with dealer?
(If you have driven a infiniti or Acura, you should know what I am talking about.)
